Original premium fare deal was for QR J class travel, originating in Vietnam (SGN and HAN) to several destinations across the Americas, Europe, and Africa. Travel period 8/2017 - 3/2018 inclusive, RT fares in the USD 500 - 700 range (USD $0.05 base fare).
Reports have now been circulating that all held, non-purchased fares have been canceled by the airline. Some held and then purchased fares were also canceled, but several reports indicate at least some of those have been re-instated.

My issued e-ticket was canceled, all three of them. Had ticket numbers.
My experience so far is contradictory to your hearsay.
I would be very very surprised if these tickets are Cancelled.
A number of sources of mine within QR, commented that Customer Service were very busy this morning with people calling up to ask if their fares were genuine. The CS team were prepped overnight, and told that fares would be honoured - along with a spiel about the QR service passengers can expect.

But the one thing that confuses me is that if these fare are indeed genuine, why are they so aggressive in cancelling held reservations?

Can you elaborate a little bit on your route, approximate date, and what time you booked? We're trynna figure out if there is some kind of trend as to why some are getting cancelled while others haven't been yet

One of my PNRs now comes up as not found.... but using the ticket number, I can still see the confirmed reservation.......
The other is ok. Both bought (early in the deal) and never held.

What exactly is the purpose of holding the reservation then? And why is QR cancelling the holds if the fares were intentional?

But to your question, if it was legit, the fare likely had terms that said when the fare expired. You would have needed to be aware of those and buy before then.

Based on the link I posted above that they just tweeted, I no longer think fares were intentional. They have a very confusing twitter feed though. Thet have been responding to people who got the ex-sgn fares in a positive fashion. I'm thinking their comm team doesn't know what's up.

QR definitely knows about these fares now. Deciding if I should wait a few days or give them a ring/tweet to see why my reservation was cancelled even though I have an e-ticket #.
