MR to Requal AA EXP: LAX-HKG-LAX X2 ...what do you think?

I'm looking to requalify for AA EXP by end of year so thought I could do a few MR's to HKG from LAX, several weeks a part.

Want to ask for the collective wisdom/input from the community on the following trips.
  • Want to do these over a weekend since my work schedule is tight these days.
  • Will ask for SWU where possible.
  • Would consider other destinations but, ideally limit the number of connections which is why I'm looking at these non stops.
  • Want to maximize EQM's on AA

The first, at $842:
9/24: AA193 1:55 AM LAX - 8:10 AM HKG / 15h 15m 77W Economy
----- Spend the day in HKG since I've never been---
9/25: AA192 8:20 PM HKG - 6:40 PM LAX / 13h 20m 77W Economy

Followed by, at $792:
10/14: Cathay 991 11:55 PM LAX - 5:45 AM HKG / 14h 50m 773 Economy Arrives 10/16
10/16: Cathay 898 9:30 AM HKG - 7:45 AM LAX/ 13h 15m 773 Economy

Not super great CPM (~$.055) but it meets my criteria above and I'm willing to spend that or equivalent to hang on to EXP for 2017, especially given all the changes.

Is there a smarter (and more comfortable) way to earn nearly 29K (14,494 x 2) EQMs? Will I not want to do the second MR after I endure the torture of 28+hrs of travel the first weekend?

Not my first MR, but the outbound will be my longest continuous flight time. Will bring my pillow and Ambien.
--Thx in advance for any input!!

LAX-PTY runs are probably the best EQM runs at the moment because you get great cpm and can fly business/lie-flats, check the designated thread.

1 run will be around 20k EQM for ~800USD depending on routing.

Have you thought of doing a transcon ex-LAX MR to Panama City? Here is an example that nets ~19 K EQMs for $983: https://www.aa.com/seatmap/selectSea...recordLocator=

There are some earlier and later weekends that price about the same, but the transcon segments book to I or A, so you get around ~24 K EQM

Anyway, I'd be interested to hear about your LAX-HKG runs. I'm also doing a run to HKG routing through DFW back to back in November (not looking for the pain and don't even have SWUs to alleviate )

If you're doing CX in economy, please be aware only full fare Y gets you 100% miles. B and H fares get you only 75%.

Not easy to find seats through JFK but can be done around 900+

Hold on, I don't think CX miles will counted into exp challenge.

A) there is no EXP challenge, only a gold/platinum challenge

B) OP never mentioned anything about a challenge

B and H earn 75% Base Miles, but they only earn 50% Elite Qualifying Miles
(see the chart on AA.com).

There is, but it's by invitation only.

Thank you for this tip. Very helpful. Question, do the flights book to I or A through Google Flights? I'm getting just over 18K EQMs on the routings I'm doing for mid-September.

I wasn't able to get Google Flights to show the fare codes so I clicked the "Book" button to take me to AA site so I could see fare codes. Hope there is an easier way than that...

Same. I check the booking bucket by clicking through Google Flights to the AA site. If anyone knows a better way, please let us know!

Thanks, I do the same but don't see fare codes once it moves you over to the AA site. I can see where it says First, Business, etc. next to the flight detail but not actual codes. Maybe I am missing a step?

Also, the transcon LAX-JFK or JFK-LAX seem to book to business class, not First.
