Time travel hampered refund
Booked this fare and realized I can't make the dates work after all so just spent 45 min trying to 24 hr free cancel. Time stamp CST, US Expedia can't touch ticket, NZ clocks say I'm over 24 hrs. Lengthy explanations about the fact that it is not in fact over 24 hrs.
NZ very pleasant service is going to try to take billing thru the issues tomorrow, but they weren't hopeful. If not, any ideas on recourse? Credit Card dispute?
Thanks in advance.

Why are trying to cancel an Expedia NZ ticket through Expedia US? And why would you think you had more than 24 hours from the actual time of booking to cancel?

I've been wanting to go to South Africa, but I can't really make the dates work. I booked a ridiculously short trip to Cape Town because the price was too cheap to resist....if only I had more time to actually make it a nice trip.

A long trip in coach like that will be a good incentive to get me to start collecting more miles to do it in F/J next time

7 days in SA is enough time to recover from the trip and enjoy the vacation, so not that bad of a deal.

However, NZ system had the ticket marked as ticketed on July 1 at 11:25pm (did not record the NZ time, just the US CST) and when I called at 4:15pm July 2, it was 9:15am July 3 in NZ. Their automated system doesn't distinguish the time zone differences so all they can see if that it "appears" as though I'm past 24 hrs.
Any help is much appreciated.

I was trying to cancel with Expedia NZ (as I said US cannot touch the ticket). The issue is that it was NOT over 24 hrs. Ticket was purchased at 11:25pm CST on July 1. I was trying to cancel at 4:15pm CST on July 2.

Thanks for the thoughts, but the NZ agent actually confirmed that the 24hr free cancel / full refund applies there as well (AU too).
