I was playing around with a couple of back-to-back/double tickets. The only pain in the butt for this fare is the Saturday min stay

Apart from Jan-1st, you can do same day turnaround according to fare rules. I have one on hold for that day.

The weird thing about this fare is that the fare rule is specific to the dates. For my dates, the min stay requirement reads as follow:

FOR TRAVEL ON/AFTER 17DEC 15 AND ON/BEFORE 23DEC 15
TRAVEL FROM LAST STOPOVER MUST COMMENCE NO EARLIER THAN
THE FIRST SAT AFTER DEPARTURE FROM FARE ORIGIN.
NOTE -
FOR TRAVEL ON/AFTER 24DEC15 AND ON/BEFORE 25DEC15
NO MINIMUM STAY REQUIRED
Not too big of an issue since the fare works for both directions and back-to-back ticketing could easily be achieved

United's lack of a schedule in the winter out of my home airports has killed this for me, as i was planning to use UA miles to position to Denver, but on my dates of travel there are basically no options to get to Denver and not waste a ton of time in the process.

Same day turns work only if you do more than one RT. Multiple tickets are really only feasible if you live in DEN or NYC and don't have to position. Just start your tickets in the other (non-home) city, then you are at home for over a Sunday for as long as you want. Then start the next ticket the same day you arrive at the other (non-home) city on the final flight of your previous ticket.

It appears to be a wide-spread P class hiccup...just booked a r/t flight in First Class on AA from SLC-MCO, traveling 12/23-1/2 and it was only $531. The basic economy is $742 right now...

these are always fun when AA misfiles a P fare against this route. it has happened before, last time i paid $492 for a one way, so $492 for a round trip is an insane steal.

i just put one on hold for 485, credited to AS this is 4.85c/EQM, pretty unbeatable. 4 hour turnaround at JFK.

So not just JFK-DEN?! Good to know. Might start doing some more digging now...

I thought about it more and I think the wording makes it impossible to nest a DEN-JFK within a JFK-DEN, right?

"FOR TRAVEL ON/AFTER 02JAN16 TRAVEL FROM LAST STOPOVER MUST COMMENCE NO EARLIER THAN THE FIRST SUN AFTER DEPARTURE FROM FARE ORIGIN."

(same language as the december time period)

flight 1 JFK-DEN 1/7 on ticket 1
flight 2 DEN-JFK 1/8 on ticket 2
flight 3 JFK-DEN 1/10 on ticket 2
flight 4 DEN-JFK 1/11 on ticket 1

Since you're flying from Denver on flight 2 on 1/8 before "the first Sun [1/10] after departure from fare origin," I think it's prohibited.

Anyone have actual experience with this? I'm just a tourist.

Flights originating in Denver at this low price appear to be sold out for December. I managed to book two flights in the last two weekends January and the flights were either empty or very light in F.

i'm not so sure. seems like a "holiday lull" F fare to me, though the discrepancy between coach and F is suspect. i also see some pretty reasonable P fares filed on SEA-MCO, for instance.

this particular DEN-JFK fare is a blatant mistake, selling a typical domestic P fare on the premium transcon 3-cabin product. these things happen occasionally, as skunker and i both mentioned upthread this is not the first time for AA, and UA has also done it before. last summer there was a UA mistake fare that allowed refundable C from JFK to various west coast cities for under $1k round trip.

12000 x 2 + 1000 x 2 = 26000 Total of 42686 RDM.

EQP wise, with end of year bonus: 6674 x 2 = 13348

So that is: 1.1 cpm for RDM; 3.6 cpm for EQP.

Just trying to clarify (??) and looking at 2016 when presumably the bonus will be gone...and when there may be other changes

JFK-LAX-DEN RT P class $487

6674 x 2.5 = 16686 RDM for an EXP
6674 x 1.5 = 10,011 EQP
6674 EQM for any elite, or about 7.5 cpm (same as 2015)

And as far as the P fare rules: nonrefundable, but changeable with a $200 change fee. Correct?

Any guess whether AA will honor?
