United Cracking Down on Mistake Fares

http://www.briansumers.com/home/2015...-mistake-fares

Thought this was especially interesting regarding the $0 fares from 2013:

Flyertalk picked up on it within 30 minutes; however we did not discover it for 50 minutes. After discovery, it took just over 20 minutes to fix this issue; however over the entire duration of 70 minutes we lost $2.9M.

UA hires SitScape to help it crack down on extraordinary "fare deals"

The war on extra cheap fare deals continues:

The company UA has retained for this has a heavy focus on servicing government customers. Taking on airline customers for this thing is sort of new for it.

No link.

But is there something wrong with a business taking steps to ensure it doesn't make mistakes, or if it does, that they're quickly caught?

Seems like a sound business practice to me.

It's information about UA.

I don't care whether or not this contractor retainer is a sound investment for UA.

"The war on extra cheap fare deals continues"

I don't get it. Are you saying UA is declaring war on themselves?

Who knows if those figures are accurate or not. Those could be numbers that helped UA's people to internally sell SitScape's offer and that helped SitScape to get UA to pay it more money than minimally required.

You called it a "war" on fare deals - that sounds like a negative comment to me

I am saying that UA's war on its own extraordinarily cheap fare deals continues.

You can hear/read things however you fancy. Either way, UA has a continuing war against extra cheap fare deals. It's even hired a government contractor that markets itself as waging various sorts of "wars".

MR forum, Twitter, Facebook, and various other websites.

The cognoscenti consumers will perhaps be burying the info ever deeper?

Erroneous Web Fare

From the article, it is the use of software from Sitescape, not hiring Sitescape,
and the purpose is to shorten the time to discover erroneous web fare, not legit low fares.

Are you saying that no Sitescape employees are being hired by UA even for software configuration and training?

Are you saying that there is always a clear line between "erroneous web fare" and "legit low fares"? If so, it seems to be an artificial construct erected mainly by and/or for those who are the industry's favored harpies. Have to wonder if the US DOT is somehow being satisfied by UA retaining SiteScape.

I look at it this way: United wants customers that pay; their own elites are not going to bail on them over a mistake fare. And any customer that is flying United solely for a mistake fare isn't one they particularly care to indulge.

Any mistake fare that's honored (by any company) is a nice gesture.

Short of false advertising or malicious intent, mistake fares are just a game of chance and luck for those who can take advantage of it.
