Flight Changes
Many changes have been made due to Etihad schedule changes. In some cases, connecting flights are being swapped to nonstops. Some have been able to get this changed back by calling Etihad, others have not. You may have to repeat call / HUCA to get it switched back.

Update 12/28/14: Etihad will honor the fare per Forbes article.

Suggestions for what to do in ...

AUH (Abu Dhabi) (Check Groupon):
Grand Mosque [wiki] [map]
Kayak the mangroves [trip advisor] [map]
Ferrari World [trip advisor] [map]
Dune bashing/camel ride [trip advisor]

Hotels:
Qsar al Sarab

CPT (Capetown):
Take cable car to top of Table Mountain
Drive the scenic drive to Cape Point and Cape of Good Hope
See Robben Island prison, home to Nelson Mandela for 18 years
V&A Waterfront

JNB (Johannesburg):
Nelson Mandela Square (JNB) / also visit Butchers steak restaurant there
Guided tour to Soweto (JNB)

For JNB/CPT:
- use uber (safe and cheap) / if you travel to Sandton(JNB): use Gautrain from Airport. / review travel advise and do's/don'ts for traveling in JNB city.
- Tons of cheap flights btw CPT and JNB. Always use booking portals like orbitz, skyscanner, etc. to find good fares (for example on Kulula, BA, SAA, Mango, etc.)

MNL (Manila):
Ask on FT (in Destinations) - There are too many islands and beaches in the Philippines to list here.

Only thing I can think of is visiting the Grand Mosque. Getting out of the airport didn't take long when I did it and it's not a very far drive from the airport. Entry to the mosque closes at 9:30 pm.

The mosque is beautiful at night, just many sure to have the taxi driver drop you at the main entrance. Mine dropped me on the other side from the main entrance and I had to walk 15 minutes around to get to where I needed to be.

For those who have taken these trips recently, to what extent did the cabin fill up in the week before the flight? Right now, I have a row to myself and am wondering if I should keep my hopes up.

The planes were extremely full both ways for me, however, there happened to be an empty row of two directly behind me, which I gladly jumped into and got to myself for the entire 14 hour flight home. There was a middle aged woman who glared at me for taking it, apparently she had been eyeing it up. Sorry lady should have sat there before I did

Same Q here, flying early Nov (still 31C in AUH), now have Window + Aisle seats with empty middle

All the reports I've read earlier said FULL LOAD so my hope isn't high

Looks like they updated the earning page, which no longer shows the single letter fare classes, but rather 'Breaking Deals' at 25%, 'Saver' at 50%, etc.

Does anyone have a screenshot of the old earning structure, which shows E fare class earning 50%?

Quick review for Seychelles (!!) (JFK-AUH-SEZ-AUH-JFK) trip just completed

Greetings everyone. Just got back from an incredible 11 days in the Seychelles. Can't gush enough about what a beautiful place it is and how everyone should go see. But for purposes of this I'll stick to flight-related stuff.

The trip over was pretty good: JFK-AUH on a Wednesday leaving 10:40 p.m. and maybe only 50-60% full. Could re-seat and get a row to myself. AUH-SEZ even more lightly loaded (A320). Thanks to the short-lived MasterPass deal I got to spend a nasty 13-hour layover at Premier Inn on the airport grounds near terminal 3.

BUT, to get there I had to go thru UAE immigration, and that was an hour wait. They had many more posts they could have used but only 2 people were working on the general line, and slow computers seemed to be messing up the process. Long, slow-moving line. My wait was around an hour, but those on the planes that came in afterward were probably more like 2 hours, just to get stamped in.

Trip back was worse. SEZ-AUH was generally fine (on time and lightly loaded), but pulled to a bus gate at AUH, which just seems like it's bursting at the seams at certain times.

AUH-JFK on a Tuesday at 2:55 a.m. turned into a fiasco. In the words of George W. Bush, the non-U.S.-citizens mis-underestimated the amount of time it'd take to get through AUH U.S. pre-clearance, even with only a San Francisco flight an hour before and a Chicago flight an hour afterward. The pilot came on at the departure time and said they were still waiting on 45 passengers, who dribbled in and filled out the plane to 100%. That caused an hour's delay, and then it got into a 90-minute one after that with the airport operations slowed by fog. Plane left 2 and a half hours late and arrived just over two hours late, endangering some connections

Lounge access made things much more tolerable overall. I brought along the silver card and had to ASK at both JFK and SEZ, as the check-in people weren't well-versed in EY elite benefits and had to ask a supervisor for the OK to write out a lounge pass. But even silver EY elites traveling on economy are entitled to one for themselves. The SEZ lounge (Valee De Mai), BTW, was much bigger and nicer than expected, though only myself and maybe 5 others from the flight got to use it. The al-Reem in AUH could get crowded and had its ebbs and flows, but I was able to take a shower during a slow period and it still beat fighting the crowds outside.

So the AUH-JFK return was nearly 3 hours waiting in the plane + 13.5 for the flight, at 100%. The big problem in the back with EY is Kettles, maybe two-thirds Indian and nearly a third mideast. Imagine a summertime U.S. crowd on an MCO-bound flight and then double the number of babies and kids. Too much travel inexperience leading to bad or ill-considered behaviors (and you should see the mess the plane is left in). A 70-something mideast guy was really cranky about all of it and borderline air rage. I was directly in front of someone the size of Shaq (lately) and next to a woman with a 4-year-old being handled more like a lap child, who had been split to B and E seats from her daughter and had to trade to get to sit together.

I notice the crediting is looking messed up initially (only 25% posting for E, though ticket was bought 12-25-14) and will see if they can fix before calling. Also got a triple miles offer post or two but against the 25% base miles when it should be 50%. Trip also puts me over the top for gold.

OH that sounds awful.

so, I posted (probably way above) about my awful flight, and I also blogged about it (My Jetihad flight from hell). I did file a complaint to Etihad online, and I got a response that basically was a friendly F you, ha ha. Not like I really expected anything from EY anyway.

on the other hand, I expected my miles from AA for the trip. I got my miles for the flight over without problem, but for my return flights JNB-AUH and AUH-JFK - I was put through the ringer. after filing all of my papers and uploading documents, I got an email at 4am saying EY denied the claim, which was entirely ridiculous.

I called AA again today. I told the rep the story and he said, I don't understand why they wouldn't give you the miles - you had given us suffiicent proof. And with that, he said "I've given you the miles." I was shocked.

I also went to JNB a few days before you and didn't get credit for JFK-AUH or AUH-JFK. I sent in my documentation and was denied on one of the segments. I just called this morning and AA said they were still waiting on a response from Etihad so they couldn't issue me the miles. The rep told me to wait 2 weeks.

This is ridiculous how AA makes you jump through hoops for your miles on EY flights.

How long does AA take to post the miles? We flew over 3 weeks ago and have yet to receive the miles for our JFK-AUH round trip tickets.

Also, we received a complimentary upgrade on our way back from AUH. It was very nice, but not the great service I have heard and would expect out of Etihad business class. We were extremely unimpressed with the food, both in business class and in coach.

We loved Abu Dhabi and were so-so on Etihad flights.

AA Miles Posting on AA Operated

Just curious if AA miles on AA Metal are still getting the run around on miles being posted or if all these issues are on Etihad operated flights only?

Just got back from JFK - CDG - AUH - JNB

My AA portion of the itinerary ( JFK - CDG ) posted within a week. The Etihad credited to AA I am still waiting on before I call.
