Need 446 miles for gold. Worth it to do a run?

Hi there. I need 446 miles to reach Gold status on United. I have a couple of questions:

-Is it worth it for me to do a run before Jan. 1?

-Is it true no matter where I go it would count as a 500 minimum?

I'm flying out of EWR, so I'm thinking a simple EWR-BOS run one morning. That would earn me the miles I need, but want to make sure I'll get 500, not 200.

Also - any advice on websites where I can find the cheapest flight anywhere out of EWR? Thanks so much!

You'll have to decide this for yourself, here is a chart showing the benefits.

It depends on how much you will fly UA next year and how much you value economy plus seating. Or at least the ability to choose it at booking rather than OLCI

Thanks guys. Yes, the economy plus seat is VERY important, and I will likely not do 50K next year but at least 35 or 40.

Thanks for the google tip, that's pretty awesome! Great info guys. Looks like an EWR-BOS run before work in a few weeks. What's the closest place to get a lobster roll for breakfast?
