UA - short of 15.8k to Platinum, worth doing MR?

As of today, still have 15.8k to go. Not much business plan rest of the year. Is it worth doing MR?
I'm based in DC area and either BWI, DCA or IAD works for me.

It will depend on your travel plans next year. It will cost you $720 to gain the 15.8K miles with two trips (DCA-POS) on Fridays and Saturdays. You can route your trip like DCA-IAH-EWR-POS-IAH-EWR-DCA or reverse to maximize the miles. The EWR-POS or POS-EWR is a redeye flight.

why not?

I think that no one knows what next year will mean for statused UA flyers. I suspect that many 1K members will not bother to spend the extra $s to reach the $10000 spending threshold (the UA Chase card spend only waives through Platinum level).

I guess that means more Plats who fly more than 100,000 miles a year.

But upgrades may be better.

Look at the HKG deals, or the SGN deals.

One flight, interesting destination...typically under $800 a/i

Well.....what is "Not much business"? If you have 2K business travel then do you want to do a 13K+ MR, if you have 10K business travel do you want to........you get the point.

It would be easier to help if there was an exact number associated with the question.

Would I do a 16K MR for Plat, or even 1K.....no. Would a I do a 10K? Sure, did one last year for 1K.

So you would do a Europe MR but not an Asia MR to keep 1K?

The RPUs are pretty good. I think it's worth it if you have time
