being that this is a flash sale, it will most likely not be matched. the fare is good for 42 more minutes. it's a good deal for those who can position and need AS EQMs to round out the year.

The fare didn't work well for Ex BOS as you would have to stay a few days. Worked best for SAN as Same day turns had availability. No Saturday to Sunday (my usual) as the Sunday price negated the discount on the Saturday flights

I always try to spend a couple days in San Diego when I go, however; it's a lovely city if you have the time to stopover. A great break from winter when the cold March doldrums hit the NE! Rental cars are super cheap and hotels not so pricey if you are away from the beach a bit. The Gaslight section downtown is fairly hip and lively. And of course there's always good Mexican....
A couple times I've taken the Amtrak Coaster up to LA and returned via LAX. Cheap on Amtrak points and not a bad ride. Easy bus connection from LA Union Station (gorgeous building!) to LAX.

Good thought CDKing, and true enough....

Depending on when you come to SAN, the Grand Hyatt can usually be had for about $100 in the winter.

I was planning on staying a day or two in SAN and using miles to get back to BOS, but it looks like there are one-way award flights leaving back to boston at 10:30pm on the day I'm traveling (Nov 4).
The problem is, Alaska flight 769 doesn't schedule to arrive until 9:45 and AA is in a different terminal than alaska. If I try this same-day turn I won't bring a bag, but i'm still a bit concerned about the 45min turn.
Does anyone think that 45min turn is possible? Noting that I'll have to leave and re-enter security (although I'll check in online beforehand)

i guess it's all about your willingness to accept risk. it's doable, but if even one thing goes wrong, you're going to be overnighting in SAN and standing by the next morning.
if you were connecting to WN which is same terminal but different concourse/security checkpoint, i'd say absolutely possible. different terminal makes this very challenging.
