I'm really not sure. I wonder if at some level revenue management teams are experimenting with "flash sales" to see what they can do with them? Either that, or there's some kind of bug in the fare generation which they haven't tracked down yet, so it throws these fares in and then it takes them a few hours to track them down and fix them.

The same thing was happening on SkyTeam in Y this July for similar city pairs for <$900 for immediate mid-summer travel. I bought one, but cancelled within 24hrs due to the long routing. I wish I understood their logic, or lack thereof.

Booked LAX-MAD/HEL-LAX on AZ site for ~ $1980
Edit: AZ site not allowing me to change the number of pax from 1 to 2, so booked on DL for same price

PHX-BCN books in economy
For those that booked this fare on az.com from PHX (possibly other cities) check your domestic legs.
The Delta operated flights are now showing economy on AZ's manage my booking tool. AZ claims the J seat was unconfirmed (UC) from DL and books into Q which is an economy fare class. Were nor willing to re-accommodate and advised to write a letter to AZ customer service. I ended up cancelling the reservation.
The strange part is email confirmation showed business on the domestic leg. Wonder what would have happened if this wasn't discovered till flight check in
