Would it be expected AA would still honour the flights and mileage for those who already bought tickets or had one on hold?

2 booked and 4 more on hold. Must be purchased by July 1 11:59 PM Abu Dhabi time so I had almost 48 hours of hold instead of 24. ^

Cool! How are you getting there? EY award using AA miles?

Haven't planned that far yet. I am very spontaneous so I basically just have one week planned at a time. I might plan it together with some other vacation. We will see!

If I am home in Sweden though I'll have tons of choices:

AY, TK, QR, A3, ET and so on..
Ranges from 350 - 500$

R/T can be had with example LX from around 550$ or TK for 500$ or even ET if you feel little more exotic.

(We also have cheap flights to DXB with DY but that's a last exit for me. 180-220$ O/W and 360-440$ R/T)

If available I might look for O/W in LH F or something else using Lifemiles.

2 cancelled w/out notice

I'd have thought AA would honor reservations on hold, but noticed that my two are no longer listed under "my reservations" and when located using pnr, there's just :

Status: Canceled

Will call AA to try to get one back to life and ticketed.

Troubling that they wouldn't honor a hold and even more so give no notice that it was cancelled - folks might have been making use or lose repositioning reservations.

suggestion - if you have one of these "on hold" best ticket now, if you still can!

Outside chance that the web system auto canceled them due to duplicate/similar itins. Happened to me once before on a different fare.

Res held until midnight AUH

Figured out why my res. on hold died - it was "on HOLD until June 30, 2014 11:59 PM GST (Gulf Standard Time)"

For US originating reservations, the hold is until midnight of the following day (not sure about which time zone). For foreign reservations, it's the hold time of the departure airport.

The EXP line is trying to get it back, but it seems unlikely...

Meant to mention that too. Good luck, but it is not likely indeed. It is always a full 24 hours (plus however much of the current day is left) for the hold time, in the time zone of the origin airport. I almost lost an F award once due to not noticing that, was lucky that it went back into award inventory so I was able to rehold it.

It got ticketed!

Called EXP line, managed to get the reservation I wanted ticketed.

(just asked, no threats, even mentioned thought it had been cancelled, due to it being on AUH time...)

I had 2 reservations about 2 weeks apart, so it wasn't an auto-cancel, it was due to different time zone (Gulf time isn't the Gulf of Mexico)

Once again amazing customer service from AA for EXP...
