Priced a two-week stopover in Japan on the return for ~$120 more, making this one of the cheaper fares to Japan in quite awhile.
With the dollar getting weaker vs. the yen, Japan will be very expensive.

@LRD:

How are did you build NRT in to the search? I've tried a few different ways (adding in to ITA, building a multi-city on AA), but no go.

I'm not having any luck on anything but ITA. I found one on ITA 3.2 CPM over a holiday weekend with a stop in BOS on US so i dont have to position back from PHL. I guess I should have been practicing with AA MR bookings. I just never considered them in the past. Hoping to knock out 1/2 my AS 2015 requal in one trip and maaybe trade a UA 2014 GPUs for Evips

You did remember to specify 'AA ... and oneworld partners' on the multicity search, correct?

Yes, after the error code prompt.

But then it priced at 2200+

Here's some tips for a budget-friendly layover near NRT: http://www.frugaltravelguy.com/?s=layover+in+narita

Just picked up a March 7-10th PHL-ORD-PVG-ORD-PHL for $498. Love this fare. Thanks OP

Don't forget that it may be necessary to add a day, e.g,,

depart DFW on Wed.
overnight layover
depart NRT on Fri. for PEK.

I finally found somthing

PHL-DFW-ORD-PEK-ORD-MIA-PHL. gotta take 3 vacation days though. It was $515. not the best CPM but gives me enough time to get from BOS-PHL on the bus

Having US in the thread title gets me all excited......

Only to realize that it includes at most 1 US segment and that US doesn't fly to China. <frown>

Amazing fare though!

Looks like roundtrip mileage for this trip would be around 14,500. If you book with the AAdvantage Citi Mastercard, which gives 2 miles/$ spent on AA flights, that would add another 900 miles (assuming ticket costs $450). So we're looking at approximately 15,400 miles for $450, or 2.9 cents/mile. Does that sound right? I'm new to this. Thanks!

Booked for late early march (March 4-10) Hopefully the weather warms up a bit there. My schedule is packed, but I couldn't resist the deal. It's just too good of a deal. I picked a simpler routing since my partner isn't into traveling and we have to position out of ORD. I hope that my UG clear for this trip. Thanks OP

Or you could use your amex gold/plat for 3x.

In general when talking CPM, CPM = Cost Per Elite Qualifying Mile. (CPeqM)

So in this case, it'd be 14,500 (for whichever routing you've got).

If you're counting actual RDM (Redeemable Miles), it would be that.

If you've got status with AA, add your bonus to that and then you've got CPrdM.

You've got it wrong. CPM = Cost per Base Mile

CPM is generally understood as the cost per EQM mile. Total Redeemable miles after any Elite bonus is the RDM cost...
