Does anyone know how to make this work from ORD? I'm still seeing the $448 price on Orbitz (which includes the PHL->ORD on US Airways and then ORD->PEK on American) but I only need ORD->PEK.

Can I book the full itinerary with Orbitz and then call US Airways and release the flight for PHL->ORD. Really I'm just allowing them to sell this seat to someone else for free. Why in the world would they say no to the possibility of making more money?

Sorry for the newbie question (despite how long I've been on the forum). This is a great fare though and I'd love to go to China (to/from) at this price.

I've been trying to figure this out for three hours now, if anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated.
I don't think it'll work like that because you're changing the fare, so it would likely incur a change fee and they'd recalculate the cost too. I'll let someone more experienced speak up and confirm it, but I'd recommend just booking the cheap itinerary on AA.com directly and being done with it. Worst case scenario you live in Chicago, fly to Philly on a positioning flight, fly back to Chicago, then fly to China. That's what I'm tentatively planning on doing.

I was able to bring it down to ~2.4 c/m. But the layover are two long.. ITA details for anyone who is interested. Replace SJC with SFO and it still works for Feb.

ITA Code:
PHL :: AA DFW AA SJC AA+
PEK :: AA ORD AA SJC AA+

Booked PHL-DFW-TUS-ORD-PEK-ORD-PHX-DFW-PHL for $480. Over 20k miles and the connections aren't as bad as SFO.... though only 30 mins in TUS!

Ok, finally settled on my final itinerary. The Mar 18-21 dates don't work for me since I will already be on a trip somewhere. I was able to do the following route leaving earlier in March:

PHL-MIA-BOS-ORD-PEK-ORD-SFO-ORD-PHL

Total of 20,665 miles. $515. 2.49 cpm. And, no layovers en-route.

Now to get my SWUs applied and pray.

Just to be sure, skipping the last leg or two would have no affect on the miles accrued on the legs before that right?

e.g. PHL-MIA-BOS-ORD-PEK-ORD-SFO-ORD-PHL (just left SFO and skipped the ORD and PHL legs)

Is there any way to do this the opposite way? I mean, leaving from China?

Those scamps at aa.com just want us to think this is a fare sale to PEK... but it's actually a pretty good fare to TYO !

Priced a two-week stopover in Japan on the return for ~$120 more, making this one of the cheaper fares to Japan in quite awhile.
