Top 5 MRs in FT History

A discussion is beginning on the RGN round 1/2 thread as to whether this is the best MR fare ever. Some way yes because of its low cost, distance and exotic destination. Others say no due to lack of changeability and stopovers for most users (tho some have achieved it). I think the question will be of interest to many readers (can't answer it myself as have only done RGN, which i thought incredible) and so deserves its own thread. I dedicate it to yerffej201, who first posted RGN.

So what are your top 5 MRs?

My top -5 in the last few years

1) HKG-IST-LAX in PE with TK
2) PRG-ICN-NOU in Eco but upgradable with miles to Business with AF/Air Calin
3) DXB-SVO-YYZ in Business with SU
4) SFO-SYD-AKL in Business with UA
5) MAN-SIN-SYD in Business (also upgradable with miles to F) with AF

All above I believe was sub 1000 Euros ticket.

Would have included the RGN round-3 if had not my ticket been cancelled.

Of course all thanks to the OP's that found the fare.

Cheers!

I think the unanimous, all time record is UA#1Flyer Tom Stuker, who earned 1k status on something like January 9 of last year.

Of course, he's already GS for life, but that's impressive regardless.

I think what the original poster meant, was the best error fares ever, which is completely different than a MR.

The MSP-GEG US/UA F fares for about $200a/i (routable via CLT, DEN, LAX, SFO, etc) were epic. Back then, the fares earned 300% EQM/RDM in BD's program (600% RDMs after you had earned 55K EQMs as a Gold). By spending several weekends criss-crossing the country in domestic F (and checking out lovely Couer d'Alene once in GEG), I managed to rack up hundreds of thousands of redeemable miles in BD's program. Thanks to BD's geographically-challenged Indian call centre, I was able to parlay those miles into some very creative long-haul F and C redemptions. BD used to have a rule that the longest segment on the reward booking controlled the redemption rate (i.e., if the longest segment was in C, but the itinerary had segments in F, you paid the C redemption rate). Thanks to NRT-AKL being 21 miles longer than LAX-NRT, I was able to route LAX-NRT-AKL-PER, with the first segment in UA F, and the rest in NZ C, and only pay C redemption rates. I miss the good old days.

Wow, I'm impressed, thanks!

Actually I stretched this out to include a free add on (MOW-BKK-MOW) and rerouted YYZ to NYC/LAX after SU cancelled YYZ and also extended the ticket validity for more than a year... Overall it became a really good MR.

Anyone remember the USAir fare glitch where you could fly almost anywhere in the US for $29 total roundtrip as long as your trip included a stop in Watertown, NY? I still remember the picnic table! I did six of those trips.... and got all the miles.... cannot beat the price!

Let's go old school.

AA PHX-DTW in F http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/milea...-kup-fare.html

AZ BKK-JFK that let you fly almost around the world in J for ~£1,000 as long as the TATL leg was on AZ

I remember the US one. I didn't take them up on it though.

For me, it's this one from two years ago.

EWR-IAH-HNL-ORD-IAD-DEN-SEA-ANC-SEA-IAH-GRU-ORD-EWR which then connected to a company trip EWR-DUS but became...

EWR-IAH-HNL-ORD-IAD-SEA-ANC-SEA-IAH-GRU-ORD-LGA due to an oversell on IAD-DEN and a cancelled flight ORD-EWR which was the only critical one for me the whole trip.

Total cost for airfare was approximately $428 but got a $400 voucher for the bump... 28.5K EQM and 57K RDM
