wow...just managed to book 2 tickets, 25 Nov - 11 Dec: £981.14 on lastminute.com including £19.24 CC charge.
All on BA, QF and CX, all BA flight numbers, BAEC gives an estimate of 50,008 Avios per person, managed to select exit row seats on 3 out of 4 longhaul sectors using my partner's Gold BAEC privileges (I am a lowly Silver!), including one on BA's new A380...now I need all powers to persuade myself and my partner that we'll be fine at the back since it's been a looooong time we flew down under in Y:-))))) but for the money...it's an adventure!!!!

Y Y indeed!:-)
I think upgrading from Y to Y+ is not considered to be a good use of Avios (I am new to BAEC tbh so not sure) as opposed to Y+ to C. Plus, we've got exit seats researved for now...which should make it not as awful?

I am saying you can buy Y+ for those dates at £882.93 each which is about £390 more than you paid and then upgrade Y+ to C.
