MR and the New DL Requirements...

I'm curious as to this forum's take on the impact of Delta's new Medallion Qualification Requirements on Mileage Running... Obviously, for DL, MR's will not be a means to achieve status any longer, as the goal is low cpm...

Are we looking at the potential for DL First/Biz class MR's now, since they gain 200% MQM's and will give you some MQD's?

I for one flew about 51,000 BIS miles on DL in 2012, at a total cost (minus taxes) of about $3000... This year nets me Gold Status, in 2014 nets me only Silver

200% only for full fare F/J, very seldom they'll be the best bang for your buck MRwise.

Correct... But either way, you're looking at 10-12 cpm to achieve a level elite status in 2014 on DL... So... MR at 10-12 cpm is dreadful to begin with...

I don't think you'll get full fare premium cabin for 100 USD per 1000 miles.
For example, JFK-LAX in F/J is around 2500 usd, so 1 dollar per mile.
JFK-LHR is 7k, so more then 1,5 dpm.

Yes, you are correct... I was looking at P fares which obviously do not earn 200%...

Either way, the MR is dead for DL as a main tool... Mainly remaining for an accessory...

Yeah, this is gonna make MR much more confusing, if still effective. I'm gonna switch to United.

What it will basically do it get you to fly 50,000 miles and earn Silver status... That's a tough one...

for me its quite simple

get the highest possible status on DL this year, then in 2014 use status match to switch over to UA or AA.

Basically my plan... Based on my leisure travel, current work travel (which is very small this year as videoconferencing is replacing actual travel due to costs) but I do have some MR's in place that might get me to Platinum...

I don't use credit cards for payment so spending 25K on Amex doesn't work for me...

Yep-

Based on my MRs and other booked travel thus far this year, I will reach PM sometimes in April or May. My goal is to shoot for DM then status match--if not, I will be PM at least 19 mos, then I will reassess my situation with DL.

Really, I would love to achieve Gold status but I won't spend $5000 unless traveling Internationally at least once... All $$ is OOP and paid using cash, not credit so everything is up front...

This is what I plan to do as well. Also, most of the challenges state that if you status match before June you keep status until the end of the year, but if you status match after June you keep status until the end of the next year, so I plan to do my status match in the 2nd half of 2014.

My plan is to get Gold with Delta for the first time in 2013.

Then I'll have SkyTeam Gold for my Around The World Award ticket, and until February 2015.

Then I'm out. Probably to United.

I'm in ATL, so I'm a bit stuck... I've got A List because I've been an Air Tran Elite now for about 5 years as well, get upgraded every time I fly AirTran BUT that is coming to an end soon with WN's takeover...

I like flying DL but my spend makes me FO... Gold is a sweet spot and I got it thanks to a December MR this past year...
