That being said I want to get a new Canadian passport soon in order to avoid paying more for a useless chip one and to retain a 48 page version
The only thing I really need it for is to enter the US anyways. HK passport does almost everything else (and a bit more in the case of Brazil/Argentina/Chile/UAE.)

Exactly so. Japan has made the baka decision to join a small group of idiotic nations who choose to treat their guests like criminals on arrival. I'll spend my money in nations that do not have this disgusting practice, but not before having some of the JL F lounge's tasty (and expensive) scotch.
