WAS to HKG Upgradable $1500

Just booked a $1500 fare from DCA through ORD to HKG on 12/13 returning 12/28. The flights are 16,600 miles. At .09 per mile, not the greatest savings for a mileage run, but it is W class, so it is upgradable. I could not confirm upgrade, but there are plenty of seats and I am high up on the list as a 1K. I would estimate my chances at 90%+. If you look through SFO, the fares are $3-500 higher and there are so many 1Ks it is hard to get upgraded. If you need 15,000+ miles and want a vacation, this is a great way to go.

Should we assume this is UA?

I'd say there are enough clues in OP's post to make that assumption.

Isn't this just the normal price off the east coast?

Haven't really been keeping up with HKG fares, but W tends to run north of $1800 for most cities that I've looked at, so a decent price, especially if you can confirm u/g space.

Some of us have SWUs coming our way in a couple of weeks ;) :) :p

I've been eyeing NYC-HKG one-way to position for RGN. One-way goes into W (which is fine with me), and is $750. It's been that way for months.

Fare is around 900$ during summer and Xmas - better check fare T&C.

I would also check TPE/KUL/SIN/NRT/PEK/PVG/CAN and take advantage of the AV miles promo to position.

You could route via HNL and NRT for more miles.

No need to check T&C since I'm not going during summer nor Christmas.

Are we really gonna debate whether a 9cpm RT is MR-worthy? LOL. It seems the MR-police try to keep anything out of the Deals forum that is over 4 cpm!

Ya, but depending on which route, that could be an ugly ride to HNL where they still have PMUA Domestic 777 (like ORD-HNL). Long thread about "wasting" a SWU via HNL and GUM in UA forum on subpar Biz/First seats.

S̶u̶b̶ - OVER 4 - 4.5 cpm runs tend to be put into Good Deals thread, which quite frankly is where they belong. At 9 cpm not a MR by most folks standard, though very decent W fare ^

EmailKid, investigating W fares for winter travel :)

Please tell me that you meant the MR Deal forum, not the Good Deals thread! If < 4 cpm can't make the MR Deals, what can?

The OP posted this W fare discussion @ 9cpm....

Just curious....
Ignoring other considerations when using a GPU (plane, length of flight, seat, upgrade space, etc.),

What would be an interesting cpm on a W fare?
Less than 10cpm
Less than 8cpm
Less than 6cpm

Very good question. What is the threshold for W fares. I wouldn't mind seeing a compilation of destinations where W fares aren't outrageous. For example, I can name one or two European cities where W isn't that much more than K,L, etc.
