UA: Starting @ IAH - 3,500 Needed for Gold

Hi All,

Long time reader, first time poster. Here is the situation:

Current 2012 EQM: 46,559
Needed for Gold: 3,441
Home Base: IAH
Travel Availability: Available to fly 12/22 - 12/31....could also fly weekends before then.

I feel I'm too close to Gold not to try for it...any suggestions on cheap flights to make this work?

Appreciate any help...

Fares are pretty high this time of year. Here's a less-heinous option:

Itinerary
Houston (IAH) to Seattle (SEA) - Sat, Dec 29
United 1588 Dep: 7:15AM Arr: 10:09AM 4h 54m Boeing 737 Economy (W)

Seattle (SEA) to Houston (IAH) - Sat, Dec 29
United 997 Dep: 1:30PM Arr: 7:38PM 4h 8m Boeing 757 Economy (T)

Cost per passenger (including taxes & fees) $506.10
Total cost for 1 passenger $506.10

3742 miles.

Good luck

@jg3rd -- Thanks for the SEA suggestion. That's pretty much the best I've seen to this point.

@Clacko -- Nice find. Saw PHL via ORD as well....can get 3206 miles with that routing for $305....so close.

You can fly to ZFV (PHL train station) with a conx through EWR for 228 and no overnight. Unfortunately I only see it available the 24th or 25th. You can even fly on the 787 from IAH to EWR if you pick the 730 AM departure. There is a whole discussion on FT about whether you HAVE to take the train portion or not and how to do it. I am travelling this route on the 24th.

Great price....what is the general consensus on how accommodating UA would be if I was within 300 to 500 EQM of Gold after a trip to PHL? Would they be likely to bump me up if I asked nicely?

You can do a double conx in ORD and EWR (~287). Would that give you enough miles?

Not sure...I can't get that same routing that you've indicated.

12/28-12/29 you can run to BOS for $497.70 if you route via ORD outbound and EWR returning. The 500-mile minimum BOS-EWR will get you up to 3,686 PQMs, comfortably over your target. 787 for IAH-ORD flight.

N.B. The layover is from 12:30am to 6am at BOS for these flights, so it's either stay up all night at the airport, or find a hotel for a few hours if you wanted to do an immediate turn. (For clarity, you don't have to return at 6am, there are other later returns on the 29th. Sometimes my brain and fingers don't coordinate well!)
