I'm at SJU right now awaiting my return flight. I got in around 11:30pm last night, took a $13 taxi to the El San Juan casino - it was dead, maybe 10 people playing games. Walked a couple blocks to Lupi's Mexican, they had a decent crowd I sat at the bar and watched MNF. When they closed at 1:30, I walked a few blocks down to the 101 bar. Entertaining crowd , I hung about for about 3 hours. Walked back towards the El San Juan to a 24/7 restaurant, I think it was called Don Juan. Had a nice tripleta sandwich, plugged in, and watched a movie on my tablet. Left for the airport at 5:30, got here at 5:35. FUn night. Thanks for the tips everyone.

Does anyone know if any of the hotels have 24-hour pools? I was at the ESJ at around 630am a few weeks ago after arriving on the redeye from IAH, and I think that the pool opened at around 0900 and there was even a security guard by the pool door....probably to keep beach-walkers out of the hotel ...but I have a 5-6 hour layover coming up (arriving from FLL at 0330 and leaving at 0930) and was wondering if there might be a chance of sneaking a dip

I really do not think so

Thinking of doing a run next weekend that gets in at 11:15pm, but unsure of what to do overnight. I might just try and stay in the airport, and if they kick me out, I guess it's taxi time.

Good and useful thread. Thanks all for your contributions.
I've a couple of YYZ-SJU-YYZ MRs in the coming months along with some SJU-AIH-LAX-KOA rtns. Never been to PR so will do a bit of tourism on two of these on the returns, but for overnights I've a couple of alternatives. Next week I get in midday and leave late morning, so have booked a hotel night in town at the Radisson. However, my next MR connects to a KOA run and I get in at 10:30p and depart shortly after 6a, so booked the Airport Hotel (which was a BW until last month...drats, no status recognition or points) for simplicity. Spending the night pub/casino crawling doesn't appeal to me. Doing two nights on my returns to see a bit more of the city and countryside, so booked Sheraton Old SJ and HIX on another.

Interesting, and I'm glad you could! What time did your flight get in? Did you have to "hide" from anyone or go into a remote corner?

No hiding or going to far off remote areas... in fact both cleaning and security walked past and saw me and left me alone. Of course I was actually sitting and working on my computer, not curled up on the floor sleeping or anything....

I have a Jan 9-10 MR on DL arriving at 11:45 PM with an 8 AM departure. Seems silly to leave the secure area if I don't have to. I can use Marriot points for Courtyard if I have to. I have a 4 hr layover in ATL and can shower and change clothes in the club.
Is there any more recent info than September about staying in the terminal or taxis to/from the Courtyard?

The B6 terminal seems to be 24/7...overnighted there while going to/fro on the FLL redeyes at least 3x this Fall....TSA was open, and there is even one little snack bar open as well. Plenty of outlets and no one will mess with you at all since there are night departures and arrivals there. I curled up in the corner on the floor and watched a movie on my laptop and no one even walked within 20 feet of me...it's as good as sleeping in an airport can get! Bring earplugs, as the annoying loud announcements can get tiresone.

For me, it was well worth it as my MR was starting (SJU-MIA-DFW-HNL-DFW-MIA-SJU-MIA-LGA) and my next night was a red eye HNL-DFW and next shower after that flight.
Turns out, due to Sandy, I aborted at end of that flight, took a shower, flew DFW-PHL(earliest I could get a flight back to the NE). Got a car from my house there, drove to Manhattan to get my wife (she'd moved from our place which lost power to an hotel) and we drove back to our PHL home. Long story/long trip - conclusion is I am very glad I took the room.

I arrived at 11pm on 10/30 and flew out @ 6:50am next day. Stayed @ Courtyard. Cab over (solo) and shared one back (it was loading when I came out). I used points.
