Wow. You are right. All of a sudden all the prices went up.

I managed to buy a rt ticket SFO-LAX-NRT-LAX-SFO right before that. It's $482 (even though I saw plenty of $346 at that time), as that's the only doable date for me. Don't think it will be honored though. Anyway, thanks mcrt!

Don't look now, but in a similar vein, I'm seeing fare alerts for ALL LA area airports with a base fare to TYO/OSA for US $151.96 on both DL and UA ... for example go to this page and search in your browser for "151.965"

... and if you need corroboration of that $151.96, check this Wandering Aramean page ...

EDIT: Never mind! Checked - the YR on these "low" fares is $500!!! ("DL YR surcharge (YR) $500.00")

Your link this page is broken.

Without seeing it, and a quick check seems to indicate fare includes a low base and a properly calculated fuel surcharge (on DL):

Price per passenger: $337.40 (USD)
Taxes/Fees: $570.50 (USD)
Subtotal per passenger: $907.90 (USD)

The KE fare was missing the hefty taxes/fees (i.e. YQ)... suspect that was where the low price came in.

Sorry ... there's a naughty word embedded in the hostname! FlyerTalk censored it:

Yep - you're absolutely right. "Nothing to see here ... move along."

Again, I'm curious what the YQ/YR was on this KE fare. Must've been $0?

That looks pretty darn close to a $0 YQ/YR, veeRob.

Kudos to the chosen few who got in on this one.

If you noticed, you can enter filters in the empty blocks above the columns ... so it's interesting to put in "LAX" into the "From" box and then "< 200" into the "Price" box ... and amongst the filtered results you get back is

Code:
Date From To	Miles	Airline	Alliance	Fare Price Comment
2012-Jul-08 21:53	LAX	OSA	5719	UA	Star Alliance	KKX03MJ0	85.8065 USD low base fare (longhaul) CPM: 1.5
So I guess if you could find that both ways, it would cut the total down to around ~ $740 or so ... probably the best a non mistake-with-no-YR fare can do?

As far as mispriced fares go, that was relatively quick (about 4 or 5 hours from the look of it).

Oh well... perhaps this will work to the advantage of those who booked, since it may just fly under the radar vs having a ton of people and spooking KE to mass cancellations.

On a side note, nice to see some of the old hats working on this...

Dates still showing on Orbitz for $346ai SFO-NRT in November, but when you try to select it says the fare is gone.

Dang... Planning on heading to Tokyo on vacation in April for about a week... Woulda loved to have been up for this...

Will by flying there from ATL... Would not have minded paying for LAX-NRT for less than $450 RT
