Began pondering another question about Sky Miles status and upgrades. I know the whole playing field has changed with the SMerger of DL and NW, and I recall a thread earlier this year regarding how many WP members were getting upgrades on NW flights. (My personal experience as Gold was that the upgrades came a bit fewer and farther between as the year went on) Has it been your experience that getting to Platinum level with DL gets you more upgrades, enough to make it worth it to do a MR for 3800 miles? I know that may be a paltry amount of miles to some, but with my location and budget, it's something I'm wondering about.
I feel myself getting more stressed about not getting these miles and hitting this level as the weeks go by. A full year of flying and sitting for countless hours in MSP and MEM and DET, just to come up 3800 miles short of platinum. Does this mean I'm obssessed?
Along the same line, have any of you noticed that the automated upgrade system isn't working like it used to? Went to check in on line this morning (also, didn't receive "let's check in" email either), but when I went to change or verify my seats, I had already been upgraded to first on the one leg I could be. I had received no notification regarding this being done. Is this something that seems to be falling through the cracks now with NW flights? Not complaining about it since I am a happy upgraded flyer tomorrow (same thing with my return trip - already upgraded) just wondering if others had similar experiences.
Location: MLB is home, living in the near-death experience called Sofia Bulgaria and hating every minute of it, and soon - LCA
Programs: DL-PM (2009) and DM (2010) 1MM, CO - Platinum, UA, NW

I would just like to point out that I got slammmed bigtime this past year for making a post with a similar title though the topic was a bit different.
So I'd like to mention that I am glad people were kind to this poster and not slamming her for posting with a title that offered little information on what the topic might be.
i'll probably get slammed for making this comment. Ya just never know.

With only 3800 miles, I would definitely go for it. For me, the Upgrades are the biggest perk for Elite status. Why not put yourself in a better position for upgrades? Flying from South Florida, I can sometimes do mileage a run from around $230-$250 a.i. and yield 5000 - 6500k+ on SkyTeam. I’m not sure what prices are like from your location.
As far as the e-mail notifications for check-in and upgrades, I have the opposite problem. I get numerous e-mail alerts, along with my cell phone blowing up with text messages from Delta. (Good thing I have a good text message bundle cell phone plan) Even after I’m checked-in, I still get "time to check in e-mail” Upgrade e-mails also get sent to me daily all the way up till the time I fly. I always get faked out, since sometimes I don’t get upgraded on all segments at once. So I keep getting the "Your upgrade is now confirmed." I get all excited that finally the last segment cleared...and of course it just a repeat of the previous day e-mail alert showing me in coach...lol.
