Is Delta Silver Medallion worth a Segment Run

I just started a new job in July that requires about 50% travel and most of it on Delta. I have 24 segments since July and as of right now no more trips this year because my last 2 were canceled.

Is it worth a segment run to get the 6 segments required to Silver Medallion on Delta?

I have been trying to figure out how to plan a segment run using some of the sites I found on here and have not had a lot of luck. I am not near a big airport and I have not had luck finding a good deal that I can either fly the same day or leave on day and come back the next.

Can someone maybe help me find something out of either MOB, PNS or GPT? I could go from MSY as a last resort.

Thanks for your help in advance.

I would say it would depend on how much flying you'll be doing next year. If your trips continue to be xxlled so you have just a few trips, the money saved from six segments from a high-priced airport might be better used towards luggage fees and on-board meals. Chances of upgrade with Silver are possible, but so-so.

I will be doing a lot of flying next year and if they cancel one trip they would most likely replace it with another. I am looking on ITA to try to find some type of fare that will let me fly out and back with enough segments.

Thanks for your info.

I think the 25% mileage bonus one gets for Silver is worth working for. Again, assuming you will be doing quite a bit of flying in the next year.

I see a $326 Delta Dec 8 MOB/MEM/MSP/RST/DTW/MEM/MOB on ITA. 6 segments. I'm sure somebody here can top me, but thought I'd get it started. There were other dates too.

Mobile, Pensacola, Biloxi, New Orleans since I had to look them up anyway. And I thought I knew a lot of codes.

I'm within striking distance of Silver for next year and I'm doing a MR/Weekend trip to YUL to make up the distance. I absolutely think it's worth going for and it would make your travels next year a lot more enjoyable.

I think it is DEFINITELY worth it. When you factor in priority boarding, extra legroom in exit row seats, no baggage fees, easier access to contact DL with the elite line, and occassional upgrade, it is a good deal.

I especially like not having to stress out about finding overhead bin space since I get to be one of the first to board.

If you don't make Silver this year, do your 2009 MQMs rollover into 2010, or is that just for excess MQMs above what it takes to achieve Silver or better? If the MQMs rollover, I'd avoid making Silver this year. Then, if you're going to be doing a lot of flying next year, you'll achieve Silver early in the year, and it'll be valid through Feb. 2012 as opposed to Feb. 2011 if you qualify this year (and don't requalify next year). If your travel for next year is enough to qualify for Silver in 2010, you might be able to turn that Silver into Gold by rolling over the MQMs you have now.

If it works that way - but I seem to recall reading something that implied that MQMs don't roll over if you don't make Silver.

MQMS only rollover if you have in excess of 25,000.

So if the OP does not reach 25,000 EQMs, then nothing will rollover, and he will start the next year with 0 EQM

It is definitely worth it for Silver Medallion Status.

-I have had upgrades 50% of the time (13/27 flights). Of course this depends on route/time etc.
-Access to Exit Rows, Bulkheads with Extra Room and all other Premium Seats: an invaluable benefit when seated in coach.
-2 Luggage Fee waivers, and you are allowed to carry up to 70 lbs each. Its worth noting that the two luggage fee waivers equals $40 USD every trip ($100 round trip), and if you take 70 lbs each its worth $90 * 2 = $180 each way*, for a maximum total of $400 in luggage fee benefits with every roundtrip
- SMS: Very helpful when trying to reach delta.
-25% mileage bonus: amounts to anywhere from 8K to 13K bonus miles each year.
-Breezeway Boarding (Zone 2) ... nice when trying to store overhead luggage
-Priority Check-In.
-SkyTeam Elite status when traveling on partners.
-And of course there are several other benefits (i.e. skyclub discount etc.)

*this is the 50-70lb overweight fee Delta charges per bag. Waived for Medallions

Thanks for everyones help. I think I am going to try to get to silver this year so my travels next year will be easier. I think I might have found a Segment Run on NW that will count for DL segments.

It is on NOV 18 MOB/MEM/MSP/MSN/CVG/ATL/MOB for $214.

Again thanks for your help.

$214 is a great find. I'm looking for a deal just like this one.

Also depends how strategic one can be with flight selection (e.g. "never pick a 752") - I went 31/34 on upgrades as a Silver Medallion (FO) this year.
