if I just wanted to go to the UK for a vacation, could I just skip the LHR-DME, and DME-LHR segments and just fly from YOW-LHR-YOW without incurring any penalties?

If you are a BMI Gold, I assume this would be upgradeable using BMI Gold Upgrade vouchers. Last I checked, they float around on CC a fair amount. <hint hint>

Is this even possible from the US?

Note, Priceline currently does not offer flights that depart from international cities.

Is there a Canadian PL site? That would do it eh?

Looks like this is good for Jan/Feb/Apr 2010 dates, too...

Also, it seems you don't need a Russian visa if you're planning to do an immediate turn (as reported by folk who did a UA MR to DME earlier this year)

10,240 miles to be got here, if I've got it right?

For those of you looking for a UK vacation, how about this: take a 'proper' stopover in London and then do the LHR-DME-LHR segment in one bite... I guess the stopover is only good in one direction? If so, it'd still be easy enough to work around to get a <24h transfer time on one leg, though - I could get to a friend's and leave my bags there, and just have carry-on for the pure MR section. For those of you staying in hotels, just keep your room for the length of time you need, leave your bags there, do the MR, and then nip back to pick up your bags that need to be checked

(or am I missing something *really* obvious here?)

I'm *very* tempted by this fare, wonder how tolerant Mrs Sofasurfer is feeling today...

No. If you miss a segment, all subsequent segments are cancelled.

I'm getting T class - not V, but still $428 ai. Why can't it work from YVR! (guess I shouldn't complain - I got in on the Spanair deal!)

This is ALWAYS the deciding factor.

I don't know where you got that GBP 11 figure from, but it looks wrong to me.

APD for UK-Russia is UKP40, to rise to UKP45 in Nov 09.

So you're looking at a $75-80CAN premium to work in a stopover in London, depending on when you fly.

e2a: OK, this seems inconsistent now... I just used ITA to price out

31st Dec 09 YYZ-LHR
2nd Jan 10 LHR-DME
3rd Jan 10 DME-LHR-YYZ

and it came back with APD at 11 UKP
Can anyone shed any light on why this is?

How to book the LHR stop-over?

I was hoping to take advantage of this, with a stop over in LHR, but I can't seem to find any multi-segment tool on the BMI site?

Use expedia, the fare increases $135.50 CAD for adding the stop over.

Any tips?

Thanks!

You cannot on bmi, but would give the same result.

I've never tried it mysef, but when you "show booking details" under an ITA fare, you get:

"fare construction (sometimes useful for travel agents)"
(my italics)

Depending on if I can find a time slot that works for me (this is the only sticking point - grr!), I might try this with our travel agent downstairs (I work at a university, and they're pretty quiet right now so might be up for humoring me )
