you might want to check the fares out of OKC. IME it's much cheaper (sometimes 60% less) to jog 2-1/2 hours south into Sooner territory. Wichita just doesn't have enough competition for air travel (grumble, grumble).
Can't blame this on Rio
I checked both OKC and MCI and, for once, no advantage. Of note, however is the fares are falling--about $200 less today than a week ago. Still cheaper to buy ticket to JFK seperately, but the gap is closing. So you midwesterners keep checking if you're reluctant to pull the trigger for a ticket to JFK.
Hmm I'm outta ORD and looks like I can find a $307ai from JFK to GIG but to run from ORD to GIG is $481ai (Q). Is there a way I should be looking at this besides AA.com or whats going on. If it makes any difference I'm plat. I don't have a visa though, and I'm trying to keep down my costs since I've already had an extensive vacation once this year. I'm kind of a newbie with mileage stuff so I don't know how I can see the pricing of fares that earn me full mileage etc.
Dates I'm looking at are Aug 28 - Sept 6 if that makes a difference
feel free to PM me if you don't want to respond here and clutter up this post. However, some thoughts on whether 481 is a good deal might be ok to post here.

probably been said before, but at this price it makes sense to look into LGA-JFK transits. still too much for me, plus I already requal'd for EXP (thanks to DBEQM) for this year.
next year's going to be a different matter. suppose I could be looking to do a quick visit to Copacabana after Carnaval (14 Feb 2010?)
Seeing 337.70 all included. The best routings for piling on the miles are
JFK-DFW-GRU-GIG and JFK-DFW-MIA-GIG. If I fly to JFK from MSP, I can
still get to Rio for $519. That's almost 16k EQM, still under $0.04 per mile.
That crunching sound you say? That's the head of my piggy bank getting
stove in.

having trouble getting jfk-gig flights for this cheap
hey guys,
im a newbie on this site... but ive been trying to search for these cheap jfk-gig round trip tix and havent had any success (couldnt find anything below 900$)... searching for aug 1-10.
Prices have jumped to double previous values ($200+ each way) as of this evening for November trips. Purchased my on hold tickets for mid-November at $292 all in. What a great deal! Can't wait to see Rio and surroundings. By the way, I just noticed TAM fares are at $366 All in JFK-GIG.

any tips?

I got mine on aa.com. Use the round trip option under the reservations tab. AA is nice in that it gives you a range of dates with the lowest fare for each date if you have time flexibility. You'll pick your outbound flight first, then inbound. There are other ways to go, but that worked for me. Welcome to FT

Try www.clickandfly.com , a big consolidator for Brazil and probably the best to obtain nice deals to Brazil.
Business R/T to GIG non-stop (now with A332) for less than US$ 1,900
Economy with TAM (both GIG and GRU), still at US$ 340-360
