I spent a long time in a friendly phone discussion with a very good SMS rep yesterday. Got the whole poop on the situation.
Wait a minute! What do you mean I can't upgrade? If they did what they said a DL PM can upgrade with a PMU.

Are you saying that a DL PM can NOT upgrade with a PMU on NW metal?

IF this is so I need to find someone who can spare some SWU's.

At the moment that is true, but the published merger timeline clearly states that by April "WorldPerks and SkyMiles members will be able to use Platinum systemwide upgrade certificates or book mileage-based upgrades on both Delta and Northwest flights to six continents". In fairness, they do still have a few days left to meet this commitment.

Completed my trip Tues April 21, total 69,708 EQM's for this trip plus my existing 18,000 put me at plat effective April 22nd. Received welcome to plat email with 6 PMU's on the 21st. My boarding card beeped at the gate on two flights HNL-SIN and SIN-NRT upgraded to business, I don't think coach was over booked. Met two other flyertalkers who were on pure mileage runs. Fargo

Unfortunately, SWUs aren't transferable.

How do you do that on NWA.com?
Just booked BUF-DTW-SFO-HNL-NRT-SIN-NRT-HNL-SFO-DTW-BUF for $1900 All In. M class
Total miles 24248. Should net me 72674 EQM's and 60645 RDM's
Upgraded on all legs with PU503.
Only question I have is, for Elite Extra Perks will the triple EQM's qualify or the 24248 miles only.

The triple EQMs will count. I completed my SIN run a few days ago, pushing me just over the 100K EQM mark. The next day I got the EEP email directing me to choose my award. Not that the EEP awards are worth much of anything this year.

Just to keep my wife happy, I make her gold every year. This will make it a bit easier on me to get up to 150.000 miles, only 25.000 to go.

If you bring Mrs. Casey N2 to Singapore with you she can get gold all on her own... and with a couple of extra trips thrown in she could even make platinum. With her having Plat status together you will have even more PMUs (useful if you do a lot of International travel together).

So they upgraded you on a "Non-Domestic" flight? How did that happen?

And then on the 30th:

Anyone else going?

I was able to do it on delta.com for just under 2k. Fortunately it is all DL codeshares or flights and I got upgraded with PMU's on all except SIN-NRT-LAX. Can't even waitlist on those flights. So I am hoping for some good luck.

Told my wife to find me something for the third week in May, doing the same thing.

Maybe I will get a better fare or at least all upgradable.

Some posts back someone said he was too old at 33 to do these MR's.well Mrs. Casey is 62 and thinks so to. On the otherhand, I am 67 and just loving it.
