Yep. Though thats not a deal breaker... but I already thought when reading the fine print that these vouchers will go unused with me

Well, I'm a piker compared to you all -- just did LAX-NRT-HKG and back. Wanted SIN but didn't like the arrival and departure times with my limited time (Hey, I don't do pure MR's -- If I haven't been there before I want to see something other that the airport. I could just hang out at LAX if I like to hang out at airports ).

43k+ EQM for $1745 plus upgraded all the way with PK503's. Will put me at 85K EQM for the year and let me use my remaining WP miles for the rest of the year. Could reach 100K if I tried but it doesn't seem worth it at this point.

The rules say same reservation, which means the same record. Would the same itinerary in two different records (PNRs) work?

One could always call the Plat line and ask, perhaps several times.

The one time I did something like this was when I was just starting out. I was Silver and my wife was dirt. I had a Plat friend book a ticket for himself and my wife. I booked my own. His Plat pulled her up front on 3 out of 4 segments. I wrote him a check and sent it to him. I made it up front 2 out of 4 that trip.

Obviously, a certain level of trust is needed for this. Perhaps Paypal plus the 3% fee amount up front?

And if someone already had this booked, it would require cancelling their ticket and rebooking. If the fee was $250 to cancel, I would expect the person getting the UGs to cover that expense, as 20K miles in C is easily worth $250.

Certainly a little work involved, but I enjoy seeing what's posible while working with the rules of the airlines.

You bet. It's all good....

Just booked CLE-DTW-NRT-SIN-NRT-DTW-CLE for $1883.27 in M class [plus a respectable credit I had with NWA applied], with 2 PU503 upgrades confirmed [coming-going] and now seats assigned as well. The Plat Elite line rep was efficient, and nice to work with. EQM should be about 59k...

Anyone going to be in SIN Fri 5/8-Sat 5/9? Never been there, and maybe we could do a meet-up? I'm open to interesting sights/culture/food... or just walking over the 1.5 days....

I doing this run and will be in SIN 24 April-27 April.
Snagged the great rate from the Conrad (see Hilton Forum).
M class, upgraded all the way from MSP.

Elite lines were not that helpful (surprisingly) and alot of confusion about the terms and conditions of the PU503 vouchers. Finally got an agent to straighten everything out.

I wonder which one of us was quoted in today's Wall Street Journal article "Mileage Deals Spur Runs for Elite Status".

Quote:
That's exactly what spurred Douglas Hardy of Detroit to buy a ticket to Singapore, with only enough time there for him to shower. Mr. Hardy, chairman of a real-estate company, isn't traveling for business as much as he used to, so he's worried about losing his Platinum Elite status on Northwest Airlines Corp., which has gotten him upgraded to first class on every flight he has been on since he reached the platinum level.

"I like the perks Platinum offers -- there's real value to it. But this year I'll be significantly short," he said.

To avoid losing all that, Mr. Hardy paid $1,800 for a round-trip ticket from Detroit to Tokyo and on to Singapore in a couple of weeks. He'll spend less than five hours on the ground in Singapore.

Mr. Hardy bought a coach ticket that he was able to upgrade using certificates he earned from Northwest, and flying in first class means he'll get triple elite-qualifying miles. For nearly 40 hours of flying in three days, he'll travel 19,436 miles. The triple elite-qualifying miles offer will give him more than 58,000 miles toward Northwest's platinum threshold of 75,000 EQMs. With other business and pleasure trips, he expects to re-qualify for platinum status through March 2011.

"I'm looking forward to it," he said. "I think it'll be fun."

Anyone doing this run April 17th? I am doing LAX-HNL-NRT-SIN on the 17th with about 5 hours on the ground and then SIN-NRT-DTW-CMH on the 19th. I can host two at the new SkyClub or whatever they will be calling the WorldClubs in HNL or NRT and also the shared lounge in SIN.

I'm doing a quick turnaround run on the 17th as well (SEA-HNL-NRT-SIN, SIN-NRT-HNL-SEA). I don't need help getting into the lounges but might be up for heading into town for a couple hours if the hawker stands are open.

I was scheduled to depart this AM on my AUS-DTW-NRT-SIN run but AUS-DTW took a mechanical which causes a misconnect in DTW. Only options are to cancel completely, go tomorrow (reducing my time on the ground from 2 days to 1), or go AUS-DTW-NRT in AA coach or AUS-LAX-NRT-SIN in SQ coach. NW won't budge on doing the upgrade to business on the alternate flights since I used the upgrade certs to get myself up front on my original flights.

To top it off, all NW personnel in AUS have been laid off and the DL agents have received zero training on the NW system. They are no help.

And I have prepaid hotel reservations that I'll lose.

Did you try calling the Platinum line? Please let us know what transpires- I had some nagging concerns about this as well- the only real problem for us would be if there is a problem HNL to NRT that causes a misconnect to the NRT to SIN flight- we only have about 1.5 hours of layover.

Are there any other options that could get you to HNL fast- for example could you take AA to HNL non stop from DFW and then reconnect with your original flights- there are several flights a day from HNL to NRT, perhaps you could get on a later one?

Also, I think that for mechanical problems the airline is entitled to do more for you- you might want to do some research on Flyertalk to see what to ask for in terms of compensation- perhaps you could get your hotel reimbursed- or you could move your trip out a day and get the airline to pick up a second/third night in SIN. Just make sure to contact the hotel so that they don't cancel your entire reservation if you don't show up the first night.
