My experience is that status updates when or the next day after the miles post. Other folks have noted that you have to remove and then reinsert your WP number in existing itins to get the status to take hold on already booked flights. Not sure how to do that with DL, though.

I flew SDF-ATL-NRT-SIN and return over Memorial week-end (left Thursday, 5-21 and returned Mon, 5-25). Flew in coach and had great flights, good service, and found the long flights tolerable (with some help from Ambien).

The "fever doctors" at NRT didn't cause much more than 10 minute delay. All passengers had to fill out the health questionnaire and be ready to present it to the customs agent......no one ever asked me for the form. I later talked to a lady that was on a DTW to NRT flight and she said no one asked her for her form either. Seems to be confusing to the purser who announced that every passenger had to fill it out. Security at NRT was quick and not crowded at all, perhaps 15 people in front of me.

SIN was so beautiful, and soooooo hot and humid. Foolish me, I thought I would go for a walk from Holiday Inn Atrium to Chinatown. I found that the bus and/or taxi is cheap and cool. I am impressed by this city/nation! What pumps this economy?

Return flights were on time and easy; however, changing in NRT was chaos! They didn't seem to be prepared for two planes coming through at once. It was a "mob scene" with special calls for flights that were leaving soon to come to the front and be expedited. I didn't enjoy this part at all. As bad as it seemed though, it took less than 40 minutes to complete.

I found the customs and security personnel in both NRT and SIN to be courteous and very professional. I knew I was back in USA when the customs agents in ATL started barking about 2 lines had to become 1 line. They then shouted back and forth to each other about needing 1 line..."I already told them to form one line"...."people, form 1 line like you were instructed". Very loud, very rude, disgusting...Homeland Security at its best.

Base MQM miles have already posted. Hopefully the double/triple miles will be here soon.
Thanks to original poster for finding this!

Still $1992 dtw-sin-dtw

Looks like the M-fares still exist as the deadline looms for 3x miles. Just did a quick check and it is still there..maybe I will just go again to punish myself...

I suppose if you DL/NW folks are still looking for ways to do this you can always fly in business class to NRT and get close to the deal to SIN. I think DL/NW is playing games with AA as they are showing STL-ATL-NRT-ATL-STL on June 6-7 available for $2,392. 14,632 actual roundtrip, it's a Z fare so perhaps it qualifies for your 3x miles promotion. It's a direct turnaround so no hotel necessary and no need to burn upgrade certs. Similar fare available from other AA hubs such as MIA, DFW, etc...

The same fare is available on UA as well. (I searched the various forum but didn't see this posted anywhere...)

For DL/NW you can also actually manage to route it through JFK to get the 15,000 mile bonus there.

Arrived in SIN early Tuesday am. Echo the thoughts on the flight of Policypeddler No problems at NRT or SIN. Health forms given out and talked about ad nauseum by crew, nobody collected or asked for them. Souvenir from NRT. All flights on time (DTW-NRT-SIN) and 3x EQM posted already. It is hot and humid, but ever have I seen such a clean place. Really enjoying SIN.

Waiting in the NWA WorldClub at MSP right now waiting on my MSP-LAX-HNL legs. Tomorrow I'm going HNL-NRT-SIN and will be in SIN from 5/29-5/31. If any other FTers are in town that want to head over to a Hawker Center, PM me.

That's funny -- I kept my form too for the same purpose.

Our flight into NRT from ATL they announced that ONLY persons staying in Japan had to fill out the health forms, transiting passengers were exempt...vs 3 weeks ago everybody had to and they screened the entire plane.

All my flight miles posted, but ONLY my delta flights oma-atl-nrt and nrt-atl-oma BONUS miles have posted (for both my SIN runs). NO bonus miles have posted for nrt-sin-nrt legs.

I have contacted nw and they are "reserching"...My flight into NRT put me over 50k, gold status updated immediately...As of right now I am at 74,800 mile for year and with a little bit of complaining from me (I have at least 13,000 eqm's to post for my 4 trips back/forth to sin) they made me Platimum (and that status showed up online within 5 minutes of phone call.

My flights to/from SIN are supposedly in "B" class (according to my printed receipt when booking flights), but they are insisting that the "B" fare on NW is only equivalent to "Q" in this case (even though I booked on NWA.com and it was a NW flight!!) and that I will only earn double miles, not triple. They have sent it to research, so I will see how that battle works itself out.

It is much cheaper to book MSP-SIN than it is MSP-NRT for the coming weekend. So, what happens if I book MSP-SIN, but don't fly the NRT-SIN portion? Will I have a problem on the return from NRT? It's not worth it to fly on to SIN for the extra couple hundred miles since it is the same flight number.

If you no-show the NRT-SIN flight you run a really good chance of being cancelled on everything following, including NRT-MSP.
You also loose more than a couple hundred extra miles.
MSP-NRT -- 5952 miles, app
MSP-SIN -- 9077 miles, app
MSP-NRT-SIN -- 9274 miles, app

Yes it is only a couple hundred miles that you loose because of the same flight number, through to SIN, but SIN is a long, long way from NRT -- I think the longest inter-port flight that NW flies in Asia except for NRT-HNL.

SIN is over 3300 miles away from NRT. It's a 7 hour flight between the two airports.

Just finished our trip on Saturday. Toddler Cellisttoo LOVED the airplanes (got to break them in young, huh?) On landing she always cheered Yeah!!! Then said "air plane all done" and finally demanded "MORE!!!" I have some great pictures of her in the cockpit of an A330 (MSP to HNL) and 747 (NRT to MSP) if someone can PM me with instructions for how to post them on flyertalk. I also have some pictures of the business class kids meals (the one from NRT is awesome with animal shaped food).

What happened to the food in business class food for adults? It was horrible! Strawberry shortcake (mushberry stale cake more like it), beef tenderloin (beef chewtoys) etc, etc. Reminded me of economy food...

Got a place setting of souvenir NWA cutlerly. I think there were several other Flyertalkers including Policy Peddler on our flight NRT to SIN, however due to the short connection time of our HNL flight we never met up. I might invest in a flyertalk shirt to make such connections easier in the future.

Now I just need to figure out which mileage run to do to tip me over to PE for the year- there are a bunch of $98 rt from MSP to SEA, LAX, JFK etc this fall.

What's the best thing to do in SIN or Singapore City during my <5 hr turn from 1am until 5:40am?

Is there enough time to go into town, see the sights and grab a cup of coffee and head back to the airport before heading back?

There are a few options that are open late night. I would suggest any one of the many hawker centres. For example, there is Maxwell or Newton that are both open fairly late. You can head into town and get there shortly after 1 and have a few hours to eat. Also, you could visit Clarke Quay for some drinks and then head for a hawker centre. I would recommend searching for previous SIN DO threads to get some ideas on where to visit. When heading back to the airport, try to get there around 4:30 so you'll have time to freshen up at the lounge.
