are always included in the ticket price, even on Air Asia, Jet Star, Cebu Pacific and Tiger. Singapore is much too sophisticated and efficient to send one to a booth like Chile and Argentina. It also is not as venal.
If there is anyone still out there that would like to do this and has extra NW - SWU I would be willing to travel with a partner and provide compensation =)
Yep, I've got NW SWU's. Not really planning to do this run, but willing to talk if anyone is looking for an 'escort'......
This would be my first true MR but I'm not sure if it's a good one:
NW: MEM-MSP-NRT-SIN-NRT-LAX-MEM 6/4-6/8 $2021 ai for 61k(triple M class) or 3.3cpm all in coach since I'm only Silver
MEM is not a great place to start a MR but I hope to be flying a great deal for personal travel in the near future. The above + a west coast trip would have me Plat.

Any thoughts or suggestions?
Perhaps routing through DTW might be cheaper? Or originating in a non-hub city? My trip [tomorrow] is from CLE via DTW and ran $1883 ai. Net EQM will be 61,254. Worth checking out a few options, I think.

Any trip of that length in Y is going to be tough. I would have these suggestions:
1. If your priority is miles (and not so much comfort), then route yourself through DTW on the outbound. MEM-DTW-NRT-SIN will get you about 600 miles (x3) more than MEM-MSP-SIN.
2. If your priority is comfort, route your outbound through LAX or one of the other west coast gateways. You may get upgraded on the domestic segments, and the flight over the Pacific will be on the A330, which is much better in Y than the 747.
3. Since you have no upgrade certs to use, you are really indifferent between NW and DL metal. Try to see if there are any options through ATL that work better. For example, MEM-ATL-HNL-NRT-SIN is over 12,000 miles. And there is nothing wrong with a stopover in HNL.
4. Are you doing the same night turn in SIN? If so, think about staying a couple of days. The lower fares require a 3 night stay but your ground costs would be at least partially offset by the lower fare. That's what I found.

A FTer in CVG has done a same day turn in coach more than once and I will PM you his name, if desired.
Concur that you do not attempt a same day turn if flying in coach. Stay a while. Stay at the transit hotel, prebook, tell them that you are on a flight the next morning (memorize a flight #) to save money.
Route thru HNL via SEA or PDX (requires overnight in HNL) on outbound for more miles. Beware of DL767 metal trans-pac. Beware of NW757's outside U.S. on long flights. Pick the best seats on A-330. Thread in NW forum.
Rather than MEM-MSP-NRT consider MEM-MSP(DTW)-LAX(SFO)-NRT
or
MEM-ATL-DTW-SEA(PDX)-HNL-NRT-SIN
avoid straight line travel to maximize mile earning.
Flying in coach I would definitely recommend routing through HNL to break-up the trip and net more miles. I also concur that you should consider an overnight in SIN and possibly NRT. Changi airport is really nice if you don't want to bother going to the city. It can be an adventure in itself. Great eating, shopping, nice transit hotels and even swimming pools in each terminal.
The trip is "do-able" in the back- lots of people are back there and survive it- just not as relaxing or comfortable. Bring a neck pillow and other comfort items. If you are
Do some reading on DVT before you leave- be sure and get up and walk around some, drink plenty of water, etc.
I've done same day turn twice (about 5 years ago), mostly in coach, with 2 more trips (all in coach) upcoming this month.
I try not to miss work, so doing one sat/mon over memorial day weekend, the other this weekend, only missing work on monday.
Will know more after first trip. I try to get exit row, or bulkhead, making sleeping easier. Got 36K on 747 on one leg of trip.

OK - I have been home a week and finally recovered from my two day dtw-sin-dtw turn. I actually would consider doing it again next year if needed but it is not on my top ten list of things to do. I cannot even imagine the pain in coach - the two dtw-nrt legs were nearly packed to capacity in coach. My hats off to the brave traveling in coach for a MR.

Looks like the fares are no longer around. I've done a search on NWA.com for every weekend till mid June and the cheapest B fare I can see is ~2700. Shoulda bought earlier.

I think most people were quoting M fares. You might try searching for M and above. Also, travel eastbound must commence by a certain date in May (I think it was the 19th or so...)
