If fargo is an NW elite (and with the handle fargo, I'm guessing that is the case), s/he was the beneficiary of a phantom upgrade -- see http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/north...al-travel.html

I don't think I would ever be too old to fly business class And you could do a nice romantic weekend in SIN as well- it is a fun city. But, I'll let her decide.

Don't know your status, but if you where platinum you could upgrade with one PU503 SIN to wherever on the mainland, including a stopover in HNL.

In middle of my flight now

In Narita now on my home from my DTW-NRT-SIN-NRT-DTW turn. Ran into a fellow Flyertalk member doing the same on my flight.

This two day turn is killing me - I am awake because the sun is out but dog tired. Those seats in business were certainly not designed by anyone that has actually sat in an airplane seat for 10-12 hours - boy are they uncomfortable - ok enough rambling.

The upper deck of the 747 is the best in my opinion. 73a, 77a, 77k in that order are the best on the plane - I like using the side cabinet as a table- it was very quiet also. The A330 in 1c and 1g was very loud and busy FA's always rushing somewhere - not very peaceful. Actually half the lavs didn't work on our a330 flight either.

All in all a great quick trip with a purpose and I will do it again next year if needed.

Glad I started this post and we could all benefit from it.

Thanks for sharing your experience; based on your feedback, I changed my seat on the outbound 747 flight for trip CLE-DTW-NRT-SIN a week from tomorrow.

Can somebody flying on the 747-400 verify if row 36 seats b,c,h,j have any extra leg room vs a standard coach seat. Delta calls the whole row "exit", but I don't think it is any roomier than a regular seat.

I can get 36b on upcoming flights, but I would rather have a window seat if the "middle" seat in row 36 has no more leg room.

According to Seatguru only A and K in row 36 have extra legroom.

L class to MNL avaiallable for 2x

For those of you that dont want to stretch out a 3x EQM for the higher price. I just booked the following:

EWR-DTW-SFO-HNL-NRT-MNL and back all in L for $1200.

Double EQMs on this. Prices about a $1000 less than M class.. so worth it in my opinion because for the extra 1000 I can get another trip in for future use and still end up with 3x miles

ran into dhh1 in SIN

opushomes was the FTer that dhh1 ran into before the flight from SIN-NRT. dhh1 looked tired and he only flew DTW-NRT-SIN and still had SIN-NRT-DTW to go.

My PDX-JFK-DTW-JAX-DTW-NRT-SIN (-HKT)-SIN-NRT-DTW-JAX-ATL-LAX-PDX turned into:

PDX-JFK-ATL-JAX-DTW-NRT-SIN (-HKT)-SIN-NRT-DTW-MSP-PDX ending one day short courtesy of a slightly late arrival in DTW, late arriving bag and immigration/ customs at DTW causing a misconnect.

The two jerks dressed in their silly customs and immigration uniforms who could not understand that one would go to Asia and not see the sights but rather would choose to sit at the pool at the Hilton in Phuket instead decided to send this traveler to a thorough (along with a rather enjoyable conversation with the two different guys doing the search) bag check. "Go through the glass doors and follow the blue arrows, Sir"

They, of course found nothing, and were surprised to learn that new passports have completely different numbers than previous ones. The also correctly guessed that a "plush fish" is a toy, unlike the guy at PDX in January who sent me to Agriculture for a look at my fish.

Thank you for sharing!

Three questions:

A) WBC seats uncomfortable in what way?
B) How was the transit hotel at SIN? I booked in there as well so I could grab a nap and a shower for the return. Any complications?
C) Did you ever run into any customs folks that you had to explain the whole 'mileage run' concept to?

My experience (a couple of years old)
a) I could never get comfortable in the flat position...I, like many others, complain about sliding down in the seat...they are flat...not horizontal.
c) I just tell them I am doing a MR to requalify to be "NW Platinum Elite". I have only been questioned once (in Boston) and it only took 5 minutes for them to look through my computer bag...I try to only bring essentials.

I think the WBC seats are really uncomfortable - as no one can possibly sleep on a 20 degree down angle flat board - you just slide to the bottom and it is really uncomfortable flat. The second alternate position called " optimal sleeping position" is better but your legs are still way too low. But the seats really just are hard and bend in places that your body doesn't - a true lay flat seat would be great

The transit hotel was perfect - clean modern and about 3 minutes from the gate. The transfer desk can print your boarding passes right next to the gate.

I was tired when I saw Opus in SIN - I don't sleep well on planes and had been up since my departure - but I did sleep finally for 8 hours on the nrt-dtw leg...phew

Shower also in the NRT gate 16 world club is great - a good refresher and the food was great too. Eat like a horse in the NRT and SIN clubs - safe good food.

Only customs I had to pass through was back in DTW - the beauty of this trip- no customs anywhere until back home.

The customs guys in DTW had a chuckle and I passed through with not a blink.

All in all I would do it again. It was pretty tiring but met a few neat people and it served the purpose.

73 a or b and 77 a or k are the 4 best seats on the plane as I think upstairs is the best on the 747 as it is very quiet and you can always go downstairs and take a few "laps" of the plane every few hours as I did.

Also - when I got home last night the 3x EQM miles were already posted in my account for the outbound leg- I expect the return leg to hit tonight or tomorrow.

I am about to board the NRT-LAX-ATL part of the run. I don't know why you like row 77 by the door. No window and I have watched people bump their heads. I like 78 any seat myself. The best seat of course is 73ab.

Thinking of doing a

SIN-NRT-MSP-JFK-ATL-NRT-SIN for 63708 EQM for approx $2060 USD or 3000 SGD

Not a bad deal
