Now this is a great thread, but how about some first/business fares out of the US to South East Asia - I am desperately looking for some myself - anyway to get from the east cost to anywhere in south east asia for around $2500 RT in business class. Not a mile run, but just want to fly in comfort and earn miles all for a reasonable price.
Here is a sale I found on SQ, a couple of these look interesting (LAX-TNE and SFO - ICN) these are RT:

I tried to get the BKK-SEA $1750 all in by ITA ticketed but the travel agent whom I have hired said it has to be ticketed in BKK. Is this true? I am not an expert but i believe that might not be the case.
I know you can purchase any tickets online which starts/begins from anywhere. For example, Koreanair.com, I was able to price the pvg to sea for approx $2300 using their chinese regional site. Interesting fact I have discovered is using their America regional site gives you a much higher price of $3200 for the exact same route.
TG does have flights:
CMB-BKK 02:45 07:05 TG308 T Th F Su
BKK-CMB 23:05 01:25 TG307 M W Th Sa
And I think TG flies a 346 to LAX now, should be F on that.
TG to LAX direct does not show any F, though their online seat map says it should. I was however capable of routing CMB-BKK in C and BKK-NRT-SFO in F and get a one way fare of 1173$. Took a lot of work to do it. Dep date is May 1st but it has two long layovers and only the C is operated by TG.

The BKK SEA can be ticketed by DL directly over the phone. Travelocity can do it too. I have done one. Ticket is paper ticket, so it is in the mail and I can't wait to have it in my hands.

I can't speak to Korean, but I routinely ticket BKK-SFO roundtrips on for AA on their website. The actual fare is derived in baht, then aa.com does the currency conversion to dollars to charge my card in USD (but the fare details all show the fare priced in baht).
Very smart of you, comparing airports. Anyone who doesn't compare PBI/FLL/MIA when flying into South Florida is going to pay for that mistake. I've seen fare differences of as much as double, for the same day/time. It amazes me that any carrier even bothers to charge differently for PBI/FLL. MIA is a bit of an anomoly, being a gateway to Central/South America... fares are always screwy there.
Steve B.
It always makes sense to look at both PBIA and FLL. If the fare difference is <$100, it isn't worth the extra time and gas to go to FLL, particularly if the return is late at night. But sometimes the differences can be astonishing.
A trek to MIA is only worth it to me to catch a non-stop international flight.

Took 10 days to get the paper ticket but I got it! Woohooo!!!!

FROM (or, we often say, ex-) BKK fares are much cheaper. I fly BKK-SFO monthly, and pay between 1900-2500 for a round trip, depending on how flexible my dates are and how far in advance I am booking. The fares are usually structed as two one-ways, so $888 BKK-West Coast sounds very possible if you have some flexibility.
How about going from DFW to BKK in C
Booking on AA.com using CX via HKG its comming up $4800.00 RT is this a good deal or no?
UAL is comming in at over 8K to BKK end of April when I am going.
Steve - you indicate that the ex-BKK fares are cheaper and I have read that many times, but you indicate you book it as two one ways, which I would think mean they don't know where you are starting from (i.e. not a round trip ex-BKK).
I need to do some research but was hoping to fly AMS to Asia (BKK or CMB, etc.) in C or Z, then a trip from Asia to SFO in C or Z, cheaper than it would be to do the trip from AMS to SFO in C. Not sure if it is possible but it would be a great way to rack up some miles, add a mini vacation in Asia (maybe Maldives). Any idea what the cheapest way to get that done would be?

Are you tied to *A? If you want everything with them, then take AC to BKK one way. It's 1827$+ in fully flexible J from DFW and then buy another one way BKK-DFW on UA for 1983+ or OZ for 1239+
Total for you can be as low as 3200$ or so.

I'm probably inaccurate in that part -- what I meant was that a one way ex-BKK would typically price with no "penalty" for being a one-way. I don't believe you can get the one way going from the States.
