Once and for all:
I am checking to see where (IF?) this fare can be purchased by a US-based flyer with US mailing address and a US-based credit card.
ual.com? united.ca? expedia.co.uk? zuji.com?
thru a US-based TA?
I've seen many questions about this on this thread, and several answers, some of which conflict.
I have also seen that some people pay for the ticket at the UA GSA in CMB. I'd prefer to finish ticketing soon, since I don't depart until late July ex-CMB.
Simple Answer for EX-CMB on UA.
1. CMB-USA-CMB tickets have to be issued in CMB by either UA GSA or TA in CMB.The passenger has to physically present himself with his or her passport to pick-up the ticket.
2. CMB-YVR-CMB, tickets can be issued outside of CMB via TA, the internet or UA.I would try not to book with UA if it can be avoided.
USAIR had an excellent EX-CMB fare which allowed using SQ from SIN-Europe.
Fare could be ticketed outside of CMB. Well too many calls to UsAIR & USAIR RateDesk killed it early this year.It was there for many years.

Thanks so much for the quick reply! I promise not to call UA directly.
So, can the ex-CMB ticket to the US be paid for and ticketed ahead of time thru the GSA or CMB TA, and then I just pick it up when I'm in CMB? Or can it only be paid for with me standing in front of them with my passport in hand?
I will actually be there for a week before my flight out in late July.
Q Shoe Guy, are you speaking of the UA GSA? How many people have been in the office when you have been there? I've never seen another customer, myself.
Anyone has email contact for UA GSA in CMB? UA seems to have changed its ex-CMB fare structure. It has C/D/Z fares now. Z is equivalent to the old D fare but I don't know what the rules are.

LOL. Yes, the week should just be enough time.
Did you pay for the ticket at that time?
How about SanDiego1K and YYZPrincess? Did anyone pay ahead of time? Thanks again!

I was under the impression that the fare enabled changes after the outbound has commenced. Is this your understanding?

I have not used UA GSA,as Ifound another EX: Asia fare to USA fare which is just as good as EX-CMB.
The info on the procedure I received from a friend of mine in Japan. He uses them,is happy with the service.
Why not? Are there specific reasons, or is it mostly to not bring attention to the fare?
Just curious. I seem to be able to book the fare on ual.com (still haven't actually tried to pay, so who knows).
Not to bring attention to the fare. As you are aware; CMB-YVR-CMB UA increased the fare by 20% and HNL stopover is no longer allowed. Reliable source informed me UA ratedesk received unusual number of calls re:CMB-YVR-CMB, arguing about routing, and taxes and fuel surcharges, yes you would think people would be grateful for the lower fare.
IF people do not stop calling UA this fare will be gone by summer.
This news, along with this older incident, makes me wonder how many difficult-minded persons are on Flyertalk.

yyzprincess: Do you mind PM ing me about other EX Asia fares. I am a frequent traveller to that part of the world, and UA option seems to running its course. UA GSA told me number of seats have gone down under those fares.

Same here - I travel to that part of the world quite often. If you don't mind, please PM the info to me as well. Thx.
