I've been trying to price out a F fare CMB-YVR and everything looks good until the confirmation page. Then the fare shoots up. Trying on United and expedia's various country sites.

Why does it need to be from Taiwan? Use SQ's website and tell it you are in Taiwan. Zuji has a Taiwan site but its in Mandarian. Or, Expedia works too.
This post contains important and not so important information.
Good morning from CMB. To be specific the Lotus lounge. I'm on a o/w F ticket to YVR. $2000CDN all in booked on expedia earlier this month. CMB-SIN-(BKK)-NRT-ICN-SFO-LAX-SFO-YVR.
A few things.
There has been a short term change to the transit procedure here. Starting earlier this week and lasting for another couple weeks, go to the transit desk as we've always done. The agent will take your ticket and passport downstairs to check you in. You will stay upstairs near the transit desk for the 15 or so minutes this takes. The agent returns with a hand written boarding pass. When I got to the gate there was some confusion and it took a few minutes to manually board me because the electronic reader couldn't read my boarding pass. This change is due to SQ changing their system here. In another couple weeks the transit desk should be able to check us in as we've always done.
Yes I went to the gate and now I'm back in the lounge.
On the flight in I was sleeping during the first part of the captains top of descent announcement. I only caught the part about the airport being closed and we may have to divert to Chennai. 10 minutes later we started our descent and the captain said the security situation didn't affect the airport so it would be OK for us to land.
Apparently the reason for our departure delay(now posted for 2:30) we are waiting for some late passengers who were held up because of the "situation here." The woman at the lounge told me there had been an attack at the air base. I'm assuming it's the base in the north of the country.
I noticed the expiry date on my bottle of ginger ale is Jan. 07.
I was asked a couple weeks ago by another flyertalker if arriving on the CX flight and departing on the SQ flight would be enough time. As I told him the answer is yes......except for tonight. CX is over 2 hours late. For peace of mind arrive on the same plane you are leaving on.
As I look onto the ramp I see a soldier with a gun. Not a big deal for CMB but with whatever is going on tonight it would nice to get out of here in one piece.

Reason: I see all flights that were to leave CMB around midnight are posting departure times of 2:30-4:00

I've never had an issue with Expedia issuing tickets ex-TPE, unless the fare specifically requires it to be issued in Taipei. CX's fares, for example, do not require that and are similar in price.

Thanks, I tried expedia but it won't price out an itinerary (a complicated one with few stopovers and involves couple airlines) I got from ITA. Unfortunately, I believe Expedia is the only online booking site that sell ex-outside-USA tickets.
I just priced out CMB -YVR at united.com. Everything seems okay... (even NH instead of UA for one transpac leg). I didn't actually try to book, because I am not 100% sure of the dates, but it seemed stupidly simple.
What am I missing? Is my US-issued amex going to be a problem?
I did one of these a few years ago on OZ. Back then I had to wire money to an agent in CMB... this seems much simpler.

It was the air base adjacent to CMB airport. It seems to be a false alarm though. CX flight probably got diverted and arrived more than 3 hours late.

Apr. 27 (MOD-12:12:29 AM): Sri Lanka Air Force has engaged its air defence weapons at a suspicious air craft observed in the Katunayake sky short while ago. The suspicious air move has been detected by the air defence radar around 10.45 p.m The air defence weapon systems have been activated targeting the suspicious air craft in order to avoid possible terror air raid at the Air Force camp. The Air Force sources further conformed that no air raid has taken place and the Air Force base is safe.

I can't speak to UA stuff, but I routinely book ex-Asia tickets on aa.com or via calling AA -- even when there's not even a codeshare (just a oneworld partner) involved.
Sri Lanka is one area that's more limited as they've really clamped down (but those deals were spectacular). The ~$3,000 C fares ex-Asia aren't anything super special -- just a boatload cheaper than ex-USA fares.

Anybody know what's going on?
Funny I was just looking at fares out of MIA into GRU (I go to GIG but look at GRU & sometimes make a connection).
TACA, I know you may not use them & routing stinks BUT for under $1300 IN BUSINESS r/t, come on you gotta love it! They also (if memory serves) go out of JFK & ORD to GRU. I believe MIA will fare out best and my search was for "last min." May 1st-10th & was $3000 to $4000 less than anyone else!
I did this same trip using up the last of my "Latinpass" miles from the 500K deal.
Nice planes, good staff, and no problems (lots of stops on the freebie, but worth it) Just think you can do a layover in Lima or Bogata (nice airport!)

So, where can this be purchased by a US-based flyer?
Once and for all:
I am checking to see where (IF?) this fare can be purchased by a US-based flyer with US mailing address and a US-based credit card.
ual.com? united.ca? expedia.co.uk? zuji.com?
thru a US-based TA?
I've seen many questions about this on this thread, and several answers, some of which conflict.
I have also seen that some people pay for the ticket at the UA GSA in CMB. I'd prefer to finish ticketing soon, since I don't depart until late July ex-CMB.
