I found this ex-CMB o/w on ITA Software for a date in January, which I'm thinking of booking. (I have got to find a TA in CMB, of course.)
CMB to BKK (TG); BKK to HKG (Air India)
then 16 hour layover in HKG (I want this.)
HKG to NRT (CX)
NRT to LAX (NH) (a UA codeshare)
Prices out at $1507 in F.
For the outbound travel, I'll fly Air China from LAX to Kunming at about $650 o/w. Then ground travel to Luang Prabang, Laos. Then Bangkok Airlines at about $150 to BKK. (This is all coach travel and I have no status or miles anyway.)
Now my problem is how do I get from BKK (or KUL, which is cheap from BKK) to CMB? Cheap that is.
If I did not care about routing thru China, my best option appears to be SQ from LAX with stops in TPE and SIN to arrive in CMB at a price of $827 in coach.
Do you want to mix and match carriers from different alliances? You can have all *A if you like.

Good point! I'll have to see if there's a good option for the CX and AI segments because oneworld miles are basically worthless to me. Still because I have no status anyway, I'm looking at cabin service and schedule convenience.
I have been trying to price 2 business class tickets from any NY airport to any destination in western europe in mid-June returning early July. The lowest I've found is $2400/pp incl. taxes using the usual search engines (expedia, travelocity, etc.). Is anyone aware of a more competitive ticket? EOS was offering a 2-for-1 deal for under 3k but don't have the dates I need...
Does anyone have any suggestions on engines or routing?

Try Maxjet or Sliverjet to London, or L'avion to Paris. They are generally lower priced than EOS, but offer a somewhat less premium product.
Programs: UA 1K with additional miles scattered between BA, CO, NWA, SPG

Playing around on expedia.ca I found:
CMB-JFK o/w
C - Just under $1100
F - Just under $1500
Prices in CDN.
Downside - a dry airline with no FFP.
You could have booked a flight from BOM (a short and cheap flight from CMB) on AA in first for about $1200 USD all-in. Flight was BOM-DEL-ORD-YYZ or YUL . Of course, that fare is gone... but it was there for awhile (it also briefly jumped to $1400 before going away).

Check out LTU to DUS from JFK. Or, try Air Comet JFK-MAD or IBZ. Speaking of Madrid, AA (Iberia flights) has decent business fares to Spain for June/July stating at $2000 r/t.

You could try PIA JFK-MAN - they used to have one way C fares for about $700. They fly ex CX 777's so business is actually very good (but again a dry airline).
Where would one find info regarding these $700 OW JFK-MAN on PIA? I've searched online to no avail.
They've taken the fares off-line. You'd have to call and ask. They only seem to release these seats when they are sure they can't be sold (i.e. they're hard to book many months out). Also check out maxjet who have a $620 one way fare to STN till 15 Sept. 07.
