One can take EK to DXB/RUH or EY to AUH/RUH or QR to DOH/RUH and onwards on SV to JED/JFK.

Unfortunately this wouldn't work for me as it doesn't get me miles or status on my FF program.

Of course, if you are going to be flying segments with no earnings, it doesn't help that you have to suffer it on a dry airline But a nice way to get there in relative comfort I would think.

Which one of the quoted airlines is dry? EK/QR/EY?

I don't know, are SV still flying their 747-100's? Could be a great opportunity to fly a true antique!

Remember you need a visa to transit in Saudi Arabia.

I don't think you'd be able to route XXX - DMM/RUH - JED - JFK without a visa to actually enter Saudi. I'd be very surprised indeed if the transit visa allowed you to do that. Flying domestic into JED allows you to walk out of the airport without challenge, which they will not want you doing if on a transit visa.

EK fly DXB-JED if that's a valid routing.

KSA is very restrictive as many know. I don't know the answer for this particular question, however why would anyone want to leave the airport anyway? I live here and there is nothing to see! Jeddah and Red Sea is beautiful but it is 115 every damn day. UGH! Leaving tomorrow on my repatriation leave for about a month. Thank god!

If you mean RUH, I hope you're joking... I'd give anything not to be stuck there more than an hour (as I was yesterday waiting for a rather delayed flight to JED, which used to be my most hated airport but seems to have got a lot nicer recently - even the self check-in machines worked on the way back earlier today!).

They really, really need to expand the SV lounge in RUH...

ETA: The SV lounge in JED is pretty nice. Rubbish food selection while I was there but juices and soft drinks. Nice view out to the planes. A fair amount of space. Wifi wasn't working. A couple of screaming kids but people managing to sleep too. There didn't seem to be a family section.

Great find.

If things calm down in Pakistan, this would be a great way to return home.

umm, is immediate turn-around possible at KHI? I believe I'll need a visa if I intend to stay.

Too bad no *A miles.

cheers.
well, if you have a Brussels Airlines Priveledge card you can still earn miles until they get merged with Lufthansa M/M miles - no EQM though.

I don't know about that, but it was a painless process when I got my Pakistani visa. Just costly at $125.
