xBKK/SFO is 101495 thb (~2900 USD) on UA. These are D fares, which you can buy through quite a few agents in BKK, including UA's ticket office (bkkcto@united.com, on Silom Road in Bangkok).

Yes, but the fare you mention is a JL fare, not a * alliance fare. The transpac segment is on JL not UA.
And, BKK-TPE is fairly cheap if you use KL.
No kidding bro, I'm the one who found the fare. I mentioned it because it is the best deal going, not because it was star alliance.
There are a lot of things that are very cheap, you could swim for free, but the OP mentioned 2 cities and I gave him what those 2 cities had. Throw in TPE, maybe more trouble than it is worth.

Heads up, there's discussion of this fare over at the Emirates forum. DXB-BKK is on A380, pretty good deal to try that inflight shower at 38,000 feet! Bookable on expedia.co.uk.
