Il y en a beaucoup! In other words, there are many. But it is not helpful because of the HIP.... Except for HNL or LAX if you connect to somewhere else.

PS: In fact routing fares are more interesting because you CAN stop without triggering a HIP. But then they are a bit more restrictive... in the routing and airlines you can use.

UA CMB-LAX via NRT

I am having difficulty booking the low UA F or C fares CMB to West Coast. UA says that HIP applies although the fare is clearly routing based and says it permits stopovers. The rules (from Expert Flyer) also state that the ticket must be issued in Sri Lanka. Could this be the problem?

Bingo. Interpret words to give them meaning.

What I don't understand (and my cognitive function may indeed be a bit impaired by 2 rt transpacs in 2 weeks - or may simply be generally impaired!) is why the fare wouldn't price without the HIP and then perhaps only be issuable within Sri Lanka. The fares don't appear to be of the "local promotion" genre that aren't loaded globally into the CRS, so wouldn't/shouldn't they fare as listed in the CRS?

In any case, are there any of these CMB-West Coast F and C's that can issued outside of Sri Lanka? Is that purchase restriction specific to the UA fare?

Thanks so much for any input that can be provided.

Prices on Expedia too. Build it segment by segment and tick non-stop flights only.

Please. Don't bother with Sri Lanka. The fares are only available to individuals in Sri lanka, and have to be issued in Sri Lanka directly. The people at United hate doing these CMB tickets - that's why they can no longer be purchased outside of CMB.

Make your life easier and go to Bangkok.

they don't accept non US credit card :

Using internationally-based credit cards

Internationally based credit cards may now be used to make the following:

* hotel reservations
* rental car reservations

When entering your international billing address be sure to click "Non USA billing address" to enable the international billing address format. At this time, you will not be able to book flights with your non USA credit card.

Does anybody know others web sites selling airplane tickets ?

You are completely, utterly wrong. They are not only available to individuals in Sri Lanka. They are available to anyone. Yes, they have to be issued in SL (but can be issued by a TA). No, the people at UA don't care about issuing them (in fact they like making a sale). The reason they can't be issued outside of CMB (they can be purchased outside via internet/phone/fax) has nothing to do with like/dislike. It has to do with fare rules and international conventions.

Who said? I did not have problems when I booked air tickets with my Diners and American card on travelocity, orbitz and cheaptickets.

"Good Deal" Premium Fares

In case anyone hasn't seen it yet, www.FareCompare.com just introduced a feature that should be very helpful to mileage runners looking for good domestic premium fares.

They have a YUP/QUP search feature at the top of their home page that allows you to see all the discounted first class fares out of any airport you select, and it even lets you select a specfic airline (so it is made to order for mileage runners).

Earlier today they had a $773 roundtrip first class fare from SFO to MCO on United, which is pretty amazing for a premium fare that netted over 8,100 EQM.
