But doesn't the fare allow for unlimited stopovers?

The AC LAX-KUL fares does not waive HIP checks (Highest Intermediate Point). Any stopover would raise the fare to the higher of the LAX-KUL fare or published fare to the stopover point.

LAX-KUL for 1900.
LAX-AKL for 4000.
LAX-AKL-stopover-KUL for 4000
LAX-AKL-KUL for 1900.

So that means the LAX-AKL-KUL fare for 1900 doesn't allow a stopover?

Are you sure this is correct? No matter how I try, I cannot get the CSPL fare to price up CMB-LAX as whenever I enter an en-route stopover HIP tends to kick in. I've tried ITA, and when you enter in a 24hr stopover in NRT it automatically jacks up the pricing over double.

Second, even on a 'through' routing without stopovers (CMB-BKK-NRT-LAX), whilst I can get ITA to price the NW CSPL fare, I cannot get either NWA, Travelocity or Expedia to actually price it up with availability (tried dates up to September).

Finally, ITA brings up a NW regular 'C' fare which allows a HNL stopover, but again, as soon as you put in a BKK or NRT stopover, HIP kicks in.

So far, the only fare that I can find that waives HIP is the UA D and A fares for Business and First respectively.

Has anyone actually found a NW premium fare similar to the UA one that can be priced up where HIP does not apply? Mileage run is great, but I'd want at least one 24 hour stopover somewhere in amongst it all.

Please re-read the posts. It does allow for stopovers. It is just subject to HIP which makes it more expensive. Don't forget LAX-AKL-KUL for 4,000 is still a good deal as LAX-AKL is 4,000 already. You are getting AKL-KUL for free.

NW regular C fare is MPM based, not route based. It allows unlimited stopovers subject to HIP. You could stop in HNL because it is a LIP. Both CMB-HNL and HNL-LAX are lower than CMB-LAX.

CSPL is route based. You need a TA to get CSPL fare as all segments must be priced at the same through fare. Many online engines tend to break up the fare if you have interlining.

Colin, Terry and Mach - Many Thanks

ITN is a winner - able to bring it up as above!

Wonder why ITN can price it when Travelocity, Expedia and even NWA.com et al. cannot...

Anyway, this represents a great bang for the buck for a premium fare.
