Also various LAX/EWR to Asia deals on Malaysian from $1999++ in Business and First class, through www.asiagobiz.com. I've not yet checked their eligibility or availability.

The Asisgobiz First Class to HKG at $2499 is a very good deal. I wonder if it includes a stopover in Malaysia?

$99 EWR-STO???? Even for one-way fare that's ridiculous...and on Malaysian? Am I misreading something? Anyway, I clicked on the Cheaptickets link and it said exactly what you posted, but when I tried to search for the tickets, the lowest r/t fare was around $800.

To answer my own question, from Virgin Flying Club terms:
Earning miles:
All Malaysia Airlines' International sectors are eligible for accrual.
Miles will be issued to flying club members when travelling in the following qualifying classes:
International sectors only:

First Class: F, A,
Business Class: C, D,
Economy Class: Y
Discounted Economy Class: M, B, K, Q, H.

Miles will not be earned on domestic sectors, all MH9000 series code-shared flights and charter flights.

Spending miles:
On all Malaysia Airlines' international and domestic routes except MH9000 series code-shared flights. All reward flights are subject to availability.

I've gotten all the way to the name and info screen for $181. Try the dates Dec. 25 - Jan. 8.

another option for miles but from MSY

This deal is not as good as yours, but it's tempting for me. On the nwa.com website, I have travel departing Dec. 29 from MSY (New Orleans) to STO and returning on Jan. 7 to be $498.10 ALL IN if you use the PD972 promo fare.

People who don't have the PD972 cert should check their ValPaks or even the Coupon Connection as people who can't book travel soon enough to use the certs are giving them away.

You would definitely earn your WP miles on this fare.

I would be very tempted to take this trip but I'm afraid my husband would be a little peeved if I was AWOL for New Year's Eve.

P.S. I also got the Valpak fare from MSY/STO For Jan. 11-18. Hmmm. I might just do this.

I didn't take this deal. It was just an experiment. I'm already going to be in Europe. I am missing New Year's Eve at home, but luckily this doesn't mean anything particular to us.

Anyone get this to book?

I have been trying to book this leaving Thu 12/16 and returning Mon 12/20.
It's coming back as not available even though the Availability Tool is showing both flights as L2. Anyone have any luck on any dates?

Would love to spend my b-day on the 18th in ARN.

Looks like the $99 fare has sold out on the 20th (or 16th), so it kicks that leg up to the $199 RT fare, for a total of $231 including tax, $50 more than the lowest possible total. On the plus side, the more expensive leg is booked in Q and should earn miles (at least on NW).

Short turnaround, but Dec 25th-27th is still available for $181 all in.
