The Cat's Reduced 1K Mileage Run

Well I decided that it might be worth it after all to do a United reduced 1K mileage run.

SO I'm doing it in Mid December (11-17.)

Details to be announced in a trip report when it's over.

With those miles, I will make reduced 1K at 84,000 miles by a measley 59 miles.

So send positive cat vibes that ALL of my UA flights in the coming weeks are NOT CANCELLED: one cancellation and it's over!

I won't be as important as the rest of you 1K's but I'll have a card I can pass on to my kids (since I doubt I'll ever get that close again!)

Even if one of your flights get cancelled, you can still mail in a copy to M+ and get credit.

Once credited, the mileage will count towards your 84k and you'll also get credit for the airline UA re-booked you on.

No need to worry!

I had a feeling you would give-in to the temptation of this one...glad you did.

I'm sure you'll find the flying even better for you next year.

"I won't be as important as the rest of you 1K's...."

I can't believe that you're buying into certain peoples' inflated sense of ego by equating FF status with importance.

Besides, it's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice!

Meow..

Go... kick Odies out of the F seat and pull Jon's sock to the nose of UA plane!
...and use the 1K card to cut the steak!

Have fun, Catman. If you're travels take you through ORD, SFO/OAK, LAS or BOS, let me know as I might be in one or more of those places during that time frame.

Seconded. Anyhow, I don't think there is or will be anyone more important to FlyerTalk than the Cat.

Have fun Catman -- although the weather makes December hardly the best month to visit Switzerland (unless you ski).

You might want to check out the Swiss Rail Flexi-Pass, so you can take some nice train trips to the French, Italian and Romansch parts of the country. http://www.sbb.ch/pv/sts_e.htm

opus17: the swiss FlyerTalk concierge will take good care of them. Catman and wanderlust already received (e-mail) very detailed railway schedules (and the railway pass is no good for the 'top of the Jungfrau-trip from Wengen).

Here is (just a small piece for the departing day) from their train-schedule:

If you don't travel with hand-luggage only, we will check-in your luggage already the evening before (Saturday evening) at the Wengen station all the way through to Newark.

Train connection Wengwald - Zurich airport: Sunday, dec-17-2000
Wengwald -> Zurich Airport via Bern

This station is 7 easy walking minutes away from our Wengen Chalet (downhill walking)
Wengwald departure 05:45AM (Stop on request / Second class only)
Lauterbrunnen arrival 06:00AM
(change of train, just side-by-side)
Lauterbrunnen departure 06:05AM
(stops in Zweiluetschinen 06:15AM, Wilderswil 06:21AM)
Interlaken East arrival 06:25AM, track 2
(change of train, arrival track 2, departure track 5)
Interlaken Ost departure 06:33AM track 55 (train#IC 911) Restaurant in the middle of the train serving breakfast
(stops in Interlaken West 06:36AM, Drligen 06:42AM, Leissigen 06:47AM, Faulensee 06:52AM, Spiez 06:58AM, Thun 07:10AM, Mnsingen 07:20AM, Bern (capital of Switzerland) 07:34AM (train will change direction - going 'backwards from here', don't worry)
Zrich main-station arrival 08:57AM, departure 09:07AM (train will change direction again - going 'backwards from here', don't worry)
Zrich Flughafen = Airport arrival 09:16
'climb' 3 levels up (stair-elevators) to the bridge to terminal 'B' one more stair-elevator upwards to the departure level: check-in at the big Star-Alliance = Lufthansa counters: the last one, at the end, is the Senator first countergood for 'StarGold check-in and anaccompanying guest.
