Doing it in J for $3000 is not that bad, 30k MQM... i wouldn't do it, but hey! they're posting $2k for 10k MQM in the premium forum.

Should be able to get a lot more MQM than that for some routings, remember MQM in business will be 150% of butt-in-seat.

Shouldn't be having minimum stay problems, I had several priced out with no more than a night anywhere, there are screenshots upthread. Lack of fare inventory could certainly be forcing longer stays though.

I just did a very lazy Google Flights search for CMB-LAS and found it for $427 in November.

CMB-AMS-SEA-LAS-DTW-AMS-CMB.

$427 / 21,842 MQMs, 3,168 redeemable miles / $288 MQDs

Booked with stopover in Hawaii and Amsterdam

Spent an hour on the phone with the diamond medallion line and they had to manually issue this ticket [ask the delta agent to call the rate desk or manual issue]. System does not price with stopovers correctly. They said the system was trying to force a stopover on a particular routing, but according to the fare rules it didn't matter.

Putting a stopover in Amsterdam requires the first segment to be booked on a KLM flight # because the codeshare for Delta isn't from CMB - AMS, but CMB - AMS - (e.g. SEA, MSP, etc...). But the fare desk said since it was through fare they could do it as a Delta flight (good thing if you want to use a global)

I booked the following with a stopover in AMS and HNL

DL8209 CMB - AMS (March 3rd)
DL143/DL2215 AMS - SEA - HNL (March 4th)
DL1104 HNL - SLC (March 7th)
DL1483 SLC - LAS (March 8th)

A/I: $370 usd total (56414 LKR) and I think around ~16K MQM

So here it is...an astonishing 44k miles. Let's see how this goes. I guess I could do a trip report. I'm almost tempted to check an old bag that I have laying around to see if it actually makes it through the first itinerary.

Please do do a trip report!

The bag would also be interesting, and if they lose it you get miles and/or money

As heinous as it would be, I could throw a bunch of clothes that I have been meaning to donate in a beater suitcase and send it on its way.

Now we're talking! (Was it possible to book the side trip back to hnl/ogg ?)

Another question: Doesn't it make sense to book with the airline you DONT want to credit to? For instance, if you book with KLM, you will get up to 200% base miles x medallion bonus, up to 200 mqm, and a ridiculous amount of mqd by crediting the miles back to delta. Am I missing something?

Now that we all have tickets to Sri Lanka (or at least *from* Sri Lanka), we'll need an ETA. When I was last in CMB in 2004, Americans did not need visas. Has anyone applied for a Sri Lankan ETA recently?

As both my wife and I are traveling, should we apply as a "group" or two individuals on the ETA site (http://www.eta.gov.lk/slvisa/)?

For those of you who want to add a stopover, you don't need to call Delta to get it ticketed. Simply edit the dates in the link generated by ITA Powertools, and make sure the fare class is U. For example you can add a layover in AMS like so:

PHP Code:
http://www.delta.com/air-shopping/priceTripAction.action?tripType=multiCity&currencyCd=USD&exitCountry=us&itinSegment[0]=0:U:CMB:AMS:DL:8209:DEC:12:2017:0&itinSegment[1]=0:U:AMS:MSP:DL:161:DEC:14:2017:0&itinSegment[2]=0:U:MSP:LAS:DL:2051:DEC:14:2017:0&cabin=B5-Coach&fareBasis=USFWLK&price=0&numOfSegments=3&paxCount=1&vendorRedirectFlag=true&vendorID=Google
