The danger with this routing is that the RDM change may be in effect by this date. But the cpEQM calculation would still work.

Is the general consensus that they will absolutely make this retroactive to all bookings once the changes are announced?

SWU availability seems tight. Anyone finding any patches of C space?

Most likely it will be when you fly, not when you book. So as long as you can squeeze the travel in before the date is picked, only problem is, that day could be July, September, or January 1... no one knows.

Decent prices in January too, although not this low. Potential upgrades to lie-flat on all legs and 11h50m to explore HKG sound very, very tempting.

Thanks for sharing, OP.

My guess is July 1 - AKA as soon as possible in the second half of the year.

I just finished a run RT from IAD to HKG. Got SWU both ways. They cleared 72 hours out.

So EQM won't be 1 to 1 anymore? It will go based on fare?

EQM will remain as is, most likely, but RDM will no longer be based on distance (when flying on AA stock).

See additional information within Flyertalk at AAdvantage Program Changes.

Sometime in the second half of 2016, RDMs will switch to a spend-based model, just like to Delta and United.

RDMs earned will be the base fare plus carrier-imposed fees (excluding any government-imposed taxes and fees) times the following multiplier based on status level:
5 miles/U.S. dollar – non-status AAdvantage member
7 miles/U.S. dollar – Gold Member
8 miles/U.S. dollar – Platinum Member
11 miles/U.S. dollar – Executive Platinum Member.

My guess is that the software changes aren't complete so even THEY don't know when it will be and that's why no exact date has been announced.

Would be nice indeed if they decide to honor distance based earning for all tickets booked before announcement. Though that seems highly unlikely...

That's why I haven't booked it. Though I could have it post to AS my new flying partner.
