UA: BWI-LAX about $150 same day

I picked this up on the Flight Deal.
I paid $149.60 for: BWI-ORD-LAX-ORD-BWI on September 16, 2015. It is a same day return. I will be at LAX for just over an hour. I could have chosen to return on a redeye giving me the afternoon and evening at destination.
It is also available on September 23, 2015.

United Airlines

Found flights from DCA for $149.60 as well. This is a good one. Thanks!

Got in on several same day turns from DCA. I thought about staying a while in LA but I really don't want to take a red-eye back.

San-DCA is $116 one way, which is still pretty good. eg, 9/16 and many other dates on google flights. via ORD, if you want to go to BWI you can go via LAX/SFO for only about $9 more. however, seems like it may be dying as we speak...prices are going up on click thru...

What do you gain by doing a cheap RT, same day turn on UA? You only earn a few FF points, and little revenue towards min. spend for Elite qual.

Quick 1 day turnaround to help for status qualification? Isn't that the definition of mileage run?

Not necessarily "the" definition.
A while back people did mileage runs to accumulate miles too.

UA: BWI-LAX about $150 same day

How may miles would one obtain on this MR? I have earned the qualifying $ spend but I am trying to obtain Gold status for 2016. I recently started traveling to Europe and have complimentary Gold and now dread not having it for 2016.

What benefit do you really enjoy? The lounges? Also, if you have Gold for 2015...aren't you set for 2016?

I received complimentary Gold through Feb 2016 which is timely because I recently started traveling to Europe. Unfortunately I have to travel economy so the premier checkin lines, lounge access and access to E+ are huge benefits to me and I will take the additional points. I expect to have at least one or two more trips to Europe which should get me over the hump but if one of the trips falls through it is worth it for me to do a MR.
