It isn't for cheap economy fares. https://www.aa.com/i18n/AAdvantage/e...ines/japan.jsp

You may be flying 19,262 miles, but you won't be earning 19,262 miles if you select the JL codes.

@skunker - True, you have to book it all under AA flight numbers to earn 100% AA miles. I tried it on aa.com, and can book it for $635.80.

In all fairness, this was posted on The Flight Deal this morning. Still a great bargain and hoping this drives a new round of competitive pricing wars with UA.

Routing through DFW-HKG on the outbound and NRT-DFW on the return yields 21,306 miles at just under 3 cpm if booked using all AA codes. I have one on hold over Labor Day.

What dates and flights? My outbound is 9/4 and inbound is on 9/6. AA2309 ORD-DFW on 9/4, AA137 DFW-HKG on 9/4, AA8919 HKG-KUL on 9/5, AA8416 KUL-NRT on 9/6, AA154 NRT-ORD on 9/7

I did the same itinerary that I purchased to attend the KUL Do in January. I was also able to apply a SWU to the return leg from NRT-DFW-ORD that cleared immediately.

I'm new to this, so this may be a stupid question, but...

If I signed up for a Platinum level challenge, I would need 10,000 qualifying points. Economy earns .5 points per miles. This is nearly 20,000 miles, and with clever routing can exceed 20,000. Would this be all I would need to qualify for elite status for the year?????

Keep in mind that any CX segments even with an AA flight number won't count for the challenge. JL will though
