AA: SFO-PTY; 5.1CPM; 8,047mi

All on AA metal. Will include some overnights in MIA and PTY. AA agent was quite surprised and impressed that the routing priced how it did.

...
It's part of the larger "anywhere in the US"-PTY $414 fare mentioned here: AA: US / Canada - PTY. $350ish r/t.

Booked from HNL or ANC, you can get it under 4cpm. The fare also allows open-jaws, and it's bookable in both directions so you can nest a couple of trips.

For me, the positioning costs to HNL or ANC is the tricky part.

The overnights really negate the savings on this unless one uses up hotel points for this. Even with a cheap hotel, it adds another $200 to it.......

"Hampton by Hilton" in PTY is a Cat 1 HHonors property that gets decent Tripadvisor reviews. I booked it for four nights at only 5k points a night. Since I (and various travel bloggers) value Hhonors points at only about $.004 each, that's only about $20 a night, or $80 for my stay.

If you have silver status on Hilton you should be able to get a 5th night for free.

An even better deal then! But wasn't thinking of that when looking for the minimum AA fare layover (four nights) in PTY.

The Hilton devaluation of a year or two ago battered top-end redemptions but left the lower-end redemptions still pretty sweet.
