The return fare to PEK from YEG on DL was only $553 (CAD) just last month.

That was a mistake fare last month. I have never seen a fare that low, ever, and I lived in Beijing for 3 years. ~$800 CAD is a pretty good fare under normal circumstances. The least I ever paid was USD $700.

Well, the way I look at it, nothing's impossible when it comes to air fare prices departing from Canadian airports. Since we're still referring to YEG, just last February, AC had a return flight form there to PVG with departures Feb to May 2014 for only $728 (CAD).
