The below is from our moderator (taken from the first post of the thread - bolding is mine). Feel free to add more if necessary / as needed.

Happy 2014!

Please use this thread to post or to follow Economy Fares which are 'Good Deals' but where the cost per mile is more than 3-4 cents per mile, which is the usual upper limit for what is considered a true 'MR Deal'.

A few requests for posting in the thread:

-members posting their deals please post the city pairs/airport codes and pricing in the body of the post and not just in the post title as it isn't visible for those reading it on mobile devices (ETA: ...or in email alerts)

-some members may be unaware that you can subscribe to this thread and to do that you can go to "Thread Tools" at the top of the thread and click on "Subscribe to this thread".

NYC->Germany->Canada on *A around $600

NYC->Germany->Canada on *A around $600

This is not mileage run material, but very nicely priced:

LGA-YUL-FRA; HAJ-ZRH-YUL for USD 591 (7.35 cents/mile)
LGA-IAD-FRA; HAM-EWR-YHZ for USD 632 (long layover in EWR; you may want to keep your luggage for a while)
LGA-YUL-FRA, HAJ-BRU-YUL-YHZ for USD 635

Sample dates: November 10~13 to go, around December 5 to come back. LH faies that book into K and L. Prices include YQ of USD 290.

For the first part, transfer points I've seen are YUL, YYZ and IAD. YYZ is at least $4 above the cheapest price.

For the return part, transfer points I've seen are FRA, MUC, BRU, ZRH, EWR or a combination thereof. Various German airports can be your departure point, but not all. HAJ is a boring place to visit, HAM is better. And your trip can end at other Canadian airports for similar prices or a little extra.

I believe there are other dates available for similar prices.

Carriers are a combination of AC, ACe, LH, SN (incl. Cimber), UA, LX and/or SAS, with various code shares on each other's metal involved.

Hint: If you manage to book the transatlantic leg to Germany on LH ticket stock (!) and LH-code, you can call LH and buy a Rail&Fly ticket for Euro 29. This allows you to travel from FRA to any (!) German railway (DB) station on almost any DB train on the day of arrival and on the next day (note that railway stations in Salzburg in Austria and Basel in Switzerland are included as well). The mirror offer is available for departure - from any DB station to any German airport on the day before and depature and the day of departure for Euro 29. Rail&Fly is not available at travel agents outside Germany.

US: SAN-ROC $268ai

Fare is valid all winter. It gets cold in ROC but it's nice in SAN! As usual with any reasonable fare in the last year, Friday/Sunday travel is excluded.

Some excellent ideas and advice here, especially about the German trains which I did not know. That's a really great deal, and I had no idea that they could be used to Basel (I used to make tickets valid to Basel Bad station, and for the 5 minute trip on to Basel SBB station in Switzerland nobody ever checks!).

Are you sure Cimber Air are still tied into SN? I thought they went belly up some time ago. I do know that a good number of SN flights are operated by FlyBe now (for example, BRU-HAJ and vv).

UA: $310 SMF-PHL

Travel December-Feb, minus the peak holiday periods of course. Not bad, but pretty sad that last year at this time I paid $173 on the route.

In this context, Cimber Air flies for SAS (SK, not SN) to CPH. Cimber Sterling went bankcrupt in 2012, Cimber Air is their replacement.

But, you are right, I think I forgot to list FlyBe. They operate routes for SN, including HAJ-BRU, so FlyBe metal can be included in this fare.

DAL-ATL vv $95 RT on Southwest

Not exactly the most exciting route, Southwest starts nonstop Dallas/Atlanta service on Nov 2, and from that day through mid-December currently offering $47.10 each way on all days except Sunday. I stocked up on a few for weekend trips.
