FYI - I flew on this cheap fare (I think I paid $110 R/T) for ZFV-EWR-IAH-LAS-EWR-ZFV. I successfully did a same-day change to PHL-SFO-LAS-ORD-EWR-ZFV. Not sure what routing rules permit but they are typically ignored when doing SDC.

I flew this in combination with the cheap SAN-ZFV. Flew SAN-EWR-ZFV-EWR-LAS for cheaper than Southwest non stop SAN-LAS. I SDC'd EWR-LAS instead of flying via ORD.

ZFV runs are lucrative

Back in September, I combined a series of one-ways and ticketed this itinerary:

PHL-ORD-SEA-EWR-ZFV-EWR-SAN-IAD-PHL

Thanks to SDC, I ended up flying

PHL-SFO-SEA-EWR-ZFV-EWR-SAN-LAX-IAD-PHL

All for under $400, and in 2.5 days of travel I got to play tourist in Seattle and Philadelphia, and have breakfast with a friend in New York.

Then, last week, I flew

ZFV-EWR-IAH-LAS-EWR-BOS-DEN-LAS-IAH-EWR-ZFV

Again, this was under $400, and in 2.5 days of travel I got to play tourist in Boston.

These are amazing deals.

You'll earn 250 RDM but 0 PQM for each train segment.

Can I skip the first Train segment?

Fare is so attractive but I have to leave from NYC, Don't want to reposition.

See here.

The short answer is book separate one-way trips, and sort of.

i saw several routings via SFO but they priced out around $82-88 o/w instead of $66. seemed to require a redeye for cheapest options.

ZFV-LAS $121 SAME DAY RETURNS JAN, FEB, and MAR 2014

Once again, three dates in January 2014 22, 28, 29 same day RT for $121 ZFV-LAS. Just flights = 2.7cpm with train extra. In Feb 2014 dates available are: 4, 5, 11, 25, 26. March dates 4,11. Lowest same day returns in April jump to $181. I hope someone can benefit from these.

Never did a ZFV run before, is it possible to do two back to back, such as:

(Day 1) ZFV-EWR-IAH-LAS + LAS-IAH-EWR (arrive 10:50am, Day 2)-ZFV (2pm)+ ZFV-EWR (depart 12pm)-IAH-LAS ...

From the other thread, looks like it's no problem to drop the first EWR-ZFV, but then I suppose the issue is how to pick up the second ZFV-EWR ticket? If I drop the EWR-ZFV *and* the ZFV-EWR, it shouldn't be a problem to make the flights time-wise.

It's also medium-risky to drop ZFV-EWR (which I would want to do in each case), but seems like there's a fair chance I can get things reinstated at EWR.

Any advice? Or don't even try?

I may just try and find a schedule that would allow enough train time though to avoid the uncertainty.

Does anyone know if it is possible to take the EWR-ZFV segment the next day? I am doing ZFV-EWR-LAS next day LAS-EWR (overnight) - and then so the ZFV segment the next day. I would like to spend the night in NYC - anyone tried this?

Kind of a silly question but any ideas/suggestions for how to spend 11pm-4am in Vegas?

Thanks!

What were the delineations for your OWs?

Was it:

1) ZFV-EWR-IAH-LAS
2) LAS-EWR-BOS
3) BOS-DEN-LAS
4) LAS-IAH-EWR-ZFV?

Meaning #2 and #3 were each $130 or less? On ITA I see this is possible using US Air for #2 and #3. Just confirming...

Correct. My itinerary was all UA (except the Amtrak segments)... not sure that LAS-BOS fare is still available. I posted these to give an idea what's possible with the ZFV fares.
