Think this is the same fare that's been around for quite awhile. You can do NYC-IAD-AMS-IST-AMS-IAD-NYC for $508 , or JFK-AMS-IST for $494.

No, you would get miles to AMS only, and the remainder of your trip would be canceled, so you couldn't return on the same ticket.

I'm a veteran domestic flyer, but newbie international, so please pardon this question - I see that this itin is still bookable on delta.com - what visas are required?

At IST you will exchange $20 cash for a sticker to put in your passport. Other than making sure you have $20, no advance preparation required.

Starting this run today. I am enroute to IAD as I type. I am taking the flight that gets in at 1 am and will bum around the airport for a few hours. Never been to IST so I chose to hang out in AMS for 8+ hours. Routing is IAD-MSP-AMS-IST-AMS-PDX-MSP-DFW.
