Well, I bit the bullet and booked one (on AA) March 19-23. Suggestions as to what to see/do in Madrid?
After booking I thought about BCN. It's slightly cheaper and more miles, but oh well.

MAD; for art, the Prado and the Reina Sofia are both world class, many important pieces. Free hours late on Saturdays. Tooling around town having drinks and snacks, need not settle in for a proper meal if you don't want. Try Spanish vermouth (aperitif) often served on tap. Cider and free food at El Tigre (kind of downscale backpacker-y but fun). Walk around the old town for tapas and such (google for recs). Check out the San Martin market or another north of the grand boulevard (San Antonio?).
I'm not much of a shopper, but I like Spanish casual clothes. Custo and Desigual for men's shirts. Women have even better choices.
BCN is great too, maybe next time.
I stayed at a nice AC Hotel (Marriott) for very cheap last march; may even be cheaper now...
Day trips to Toledo or Segovia by AVE train are worthwhile (About 20euro RT), try to get to the station early as the fast trains sometimes sell out.

Pricing sub-500 Euro with AA?
Hi,
Anyone able to get this out sub-500 Euro with AA? Best I am getting is about 530 Euro.
Making it open-jaw pushed up the price.
Am really thinking hard on this, even adding up the accidentals, not too bad of a fare- sub- 700 Euros
Cheers!

how are you positioning?

Thanks for the info!
I'm trying to figure out how to position. I have been trying to find some nonexistent award inventory, so it looks like I might be buying an AA revenue ticket. I kind of wanted to try IB J. I was thinking about flying into BCN and hanging there for Friday and Sat. afternoon heading up to MAD via high speed rail.
